True size of Somalia

Originally posted in this lovely thread and thought it deserved a thread of its own. It's amazing how big it really is. Though I kinda clocked how huge Somalia/Somaliland is when I looked up its size in numbers years ago. The UAE where I live is about 84K square kilometers with like half of its land unused anyway. Somalia? Nearly 640K square kilometers. Nearly twice the size of Germany. Geeljires really need to get around to greening as much of the land as possible. At least turning whatever they can into marginal land for things like rotational grazing. The agricultural and habitability potential is unbelievable.

United Horn :rejoice: :rejoice:

Wallahi, I used to dream of a United Horn as a young man but I feel like it's a futile dream. The religious and ethnic divides would make it too difficult to truly make feasible. We'd end up on the brink of civil war and collapse like Ethiopia nowadays or just have issues where certain ethnic or religious groups dominate others like what you see in Ethiopia and India. Or maybe I'm too pessimistic. I think a strong, highly integrated economic zone is inevitable, though. Inshallah for that! We will be strong!

A EU type union (minus a shared currency) is the most ideal arrangement for a regional block; Nations should retain their Sovereignty to the same extent that we see in the EU; they should retain their own Parliaments, Governments and heads of State.

To be honest, they should test run this with Ethiopia. I doubt the elites of the central government would ever truly be receptive but dissolving the central government as it currently is with a PM and Pres and replacing it with a central body made up of elected officials from each of the regions then fragmenting the country further, like they have already started by giving Sidamas their own region independent of the old SNNP region, to be made up of even more ethnic regions with their own governors. "Ethiopia" as a real country would cease to exist. It would just be a collection of smaller countries that agree to come together, share a currency, trade policy, have open borders and coordinate their imports and exports while running their external affairs in Addis via that central body made up of officials from each of their regions.

If it works then you could just integrate Somalia, Jabuuti and Eritrea into this and maybe even other neighboring countries like South Sudan and Sudan if they are interested. Honestly, I think it would be a lot better for the region that trying to push these large multi-ethnic states.

That’s not a bad idea, it’ll probably improve living conditions for the average person but chances are Amharas will find a way for it to become an Amhara dominated state after a while. They’re power hungry as hell.

Somalia is the 44th biggest country in the world just below France (though Somalia is bigger if you don't include France's overseas territories).

If you exclude Somaliland, then Somalia would be 55th biggest, just above Sweden.

The biggest shock to me is Greenland though, it looks so big on maps but it's actually smaller than Algeria.

I think the entire East African-Central African region should gradually move toward a EU type integration, however, it should give economic clearances to certain Nations that either only recently became independent or just stabilised.

I think I've said it before, but I'll say it again...

..Africa has 80% of the strategic resources that the United States requires and we could use our natural resources to engage in collective bargaining with the United States, the EU, Japan, Russia, South Korea and Israel to acquire strategic technologies like superconductors, rocket technology, AI and more.

These technologies could be 10 years out of date, but it would give us a foundation to catch up with the rest of the world. Individual Nations could no longer negotiate with external powers on their own.

I like the idea of scrapping the Presidency/Prime Ministership in every African Country and replacing it with an Executive Council comprised of members from every region within their own Nations; this would obviate the ethnic or regional based competition for Executive power.

This is a bit of a repeat:

The Executive Council should be composed of at least 5 members -- just like Switzerland's 7 person Executive council; this Executive Council should make decisions on consensus -- hence the odd number. These Executive Council members would serve for 1 term of 5 years.

Also, I think we should scrap elections for candidates altogether and replace it with sortition -- jury-duty applied to politics.

How big would Somalia be if you included Somali Galbeed, Djibouti and NFD?

Somalia/Somaliland + Galbeed + NFD + Djibouti (1, 2, 3 & 4) = 1,055,867.5 square kilometers

Larger than Nigeria (923,768) and comparable in size to all of Ethiopia (1,104,300) though it would be larger if you removed Galbeed from Ethiopia.

So it would be in the top 30 largest countries in the world that’s crazy

What completely shocked me is that Somalia as it currently is, starts just below Toronto all the way down past Atlanta and the western borders which is Awdal region is just outside Detroit in the Midwest. I didn’t realize it’s that big :mindblown:

Somalias potential is huge. We could sustain more then double of the current population that we have now. The potential is untapped. There is hope for Somalia, and thats realistic.

It's sparsely populated as well. You could drive for hours and only see mountain ranges in the North.

I know right bro. My clan elder told me i could use as much land as i want for farming. The local niggas don't even want to farm. I tried for months to offer a salary for workers but only my cousins turned up. Somalis look down on manual labour for some reason but want me to send them free money.

I'm in the process of reforesting too, but my business company is still in it's infancy.

:hmm:
