Let's say that a fine would be an 'acceptable' punishment; as wrong as it may be to compare and value a life in terms of monetary value, it needs to at least be 'equivalent' to the loss of life. And the absence of a father/income for the family and support of his children for many years to come.

So what? The court has reached a verdict and its come to the conclusion its death by negligence. I believe it is correct. What he did doesn't even qualify for manslaughter anywhere in the west. Sentencing is up to the judge and thats what he decided.
