Horn of Africa is a tough and a high volatile neighborhood. It’s only second to the Middle East where it, in fact, shares many traits- natural resource wealth, historical grievances and suspicions, and leaders with myopic vision and gluttonous appetite for corruption. With Donald Trump being in the White House and UAE establishing its intelligence network and loyal militia in Somalia, the stage is set for a new theater of lucrative clandestine operations. The current volatile political and security landscape could not have been more ideal for Erik Prince, founder of the infamous Blackwater, and companies. If it did not exist, they would’ve invented it.

This Abukar Arman idiot is always writing some sensationalist bullshit (usually on rip-off websites that mimic reputable sources). Don't be bothered with him.

Ethiopia is losing influence in Somalia. Farmaajo needs to capitalise on the oromo/amhara problem in Ethiopia.
In recent decades, Ethiopia has secured itself certain level of authority that made her the de facto hegemon of The Horn. With IGAD being a political rubberstamp where Ethiopia sets the agenda, decides the when and why of every meeting and which one of her concocted initiative gets mandated, it was not that hard.

The good news is with current government, Somalia is no longer entirely obedient to the marching orders of its hegemonic master. Moreover, the Oromo and Amhara peaceful insurgency has on the one hand exposed the repressive tendencies of the Ethiopian government; on the other, the vulnerability of its ethnic federalism. So, Ethiopia was compelled to re-strategize for its own survival. It has settled—at least for now—to remain low profile and calibrate its previous ambition to directly control a good number, if not all, of Somalia’s coveted ports and other resources.

Dude Ethiopia will never use any port in Somalia besides berbera. Why would it risk millions on roads and projects that might be destroyed tomorrow? If you really think about it, Ethiopia and the Horn is being surrounded by Arab militaries. This is a threat to the Horn at large and not just Ethiopia.

On the Somalia issue, Ethiopia is forced to destabilize the country. If Somalia gained success in controlling the nation then It will eventually pursue radicalization and insurgency in the Somali region. Ethiopia is using a preventive policy for Somalia.

Farmaajo struggles to get up in the morning... forget hoping he'll get his act together enough to plan anything as complex as that.

If Erik Prince get's involved in Somalia; we can kiss our sovereignty goodbye.

He'll take control of Al Shabaab and slap the politicians to submission even better than Gabre.

Somalia and the region we're in is heaven for these crazy war hungry neo-conservatives.

no offense but Ethiopia would never want to annex Somalia. Why would we want to add 10million plus people who grow up hating us. If anything Somaliland and Ethiopia will coexist in a symbiotic relationship like that of ethio-dj. Ethiopia is a peaceful country when you think about it. We have good relationships with all of our neighbors besides Eritrea and Somalia. Somaliland needs to secede in order for the Horn to finally be at peace. If that happened Greater Somalia would die along with all destabilization by Ethiopia. I honestly believe this.

Faux news really came in this time.
It's not fake news. UAE has its own militia in Muqdisho.

They trained, equiped and salaried them for SNA but after farmajo came they used them as their own exclusive army! they even clashed them with NISA.

In other words; the country Somalia will be broken up in small little pieces that could be oppressed by Ethiopia until eternity.

If I was Ethiopian that would be the option I would go for.

A strong Somalia is an existential risk to the Habesh Empire.

However Ethiopians need to realise that Somalia never really existed before 1960.

Even if Somalia is gone you'd still have to deal with expansionist clans that were your real enemy for hundreds of years.

If just one clan state/country gets the freedom and capital to fund clandestine anti Ethiopia propaganda and sabotage.... the Ethiopian dream will be over in the same way.

So in the end you guys picked the wrong option.

Why is it every Somalians dream to be a military powerhouse? Why isn't it ever about becoming a prosperous nation?

Somalis also have to deal with the expansionist Ethiopians (oromos) as well. I admit that we need a democracy in order to deal with these fault lines.

Thank you very much. Doesn't the cia control Danab (somalia special forces)?

@Inquisitive_
Yes def! They exclusively carry out ops together against the shababs.
the only few americans based in somalia work with them directly, i forgot their base but iirc it was around afgooye.

the recent ops where the american navy seal dead was evidence theyre very active in somalia.

A powerful nation automatically becomes prosperous.

The global economy consists of more than just shiny goods and services.

There are trade agreements, currency wars and other global trade rules that you can't even participate in unless you reach a certain threshold.

If you decide to float your currency you'd have a tonne of benefits countries that peg theirs don't... but if you can't protect it; you'll be eaten alive by the sharks in the currency markets.

A Somaliweyn would have the same treatment as countries like Egypt or even Turkey when it comes to the leverage we hold over the region.

Ethiopia never understood that or was happy to continue playing someone else's B****.

I would give up all the power Ethiopia has if it meant that every Ethiopian could have a decent life.

What is power when only a few have it?
