Dont think Farmaajo & co realize yet what they've started.

https://www.garoweonline.com/en/new...says-somali-govt-creating-unnecessary-tension

UAE is buying out all the news coverage on this issue.

Once they're done with the basic PR management they'll then focus on dragging us through the internet untill Farmaajo begs them to stop.

I doubt UAE is pissed because of the amount that got seized.

They lost face when Xamar decided to make it public.

First rule of international diplomacy... don't cut of your nose to spite your face.

Fortunately Khayre will be heading to UAE soon and if there are any rational heads in his team then they'll try to compromise and cool things down.

UAE have been interfering in Somali politics for years now.

This reckless reactionary move wasn't the best way to stop them.

Now we'll be forced to agree to concessions for UAE & their backers since we escalated things. :farmajoyaab:

“Somalia has only responded by denying, insulting and hiding in the arms of the nation’s enemies.”

The conflict with the UAE began when we began our relationship with Turkey. They were the ones who tried to overthrow Erdogan. There is simply no way to avoid conflict with the UAE, and they don’t benefit us in any way, shape, or form yet wants us to abandon our partner who is training our armed forces?

I don’t see the issue in allowing SL to sell the port in exchange for investment since Mugadisho would’ve allowed if SL was under their full control either way.

Why?

Because it’s an overall good business deal, nobody in SL or Somalia looses anything

It’s all about control at any cost for the sake of controlling.

In that sense , UAE has done nothing wrong.

If SL economy booms then it’s good for its neighbor.

Mugadisho and SL may choose whether to part ways as brothers or as enemies, there is a lot of mutual interest involved in peace.

Or prehaps unite as brothers... you never know

@Norwegian-Somali the Berbera port scam doesn't benefit the average family backhome but few politicians in cohorts with DP World. Taxes of food have already been raised at Berbera port by 20% which is affecting the families who were already hit by drought and high inflation.

Not true.

Ethiopia will use the port and they will pay fees, that means MORE MONEY.

Maybe landlocked South Sudan will use too, again MORE MONEY.

You should understand this even at IQ below 50..

Ethiopia barely pays any fee dummy. On top of that they own 19% of Berbera port. The main port they use is Djibouti port. Ethiopia also gets hundreds of millions of dollars from the khat poison it pours into Somaliland yearly.

We attract these types of wannabe regional powers because of our current weakness.

We have no option but to play it smart and not unnecessarily exacerbate the tension and especially not in public.

Once you do that then all pretense of civility gets thrown out the door and they're free to carry out actions that wasn't appropriate before.

You thought that 10 million dollars could do damage?

These guys got more money than sense.

100 million could sabotage the next election and set us back another 5-10 years.

Do you want Omar Abdirashid as our next President?

Next time let's retaliate in a way that doesn't hurt the feelings of these sensitive Princes.

Its not just our pride on the table but the future of our country.

we need to grow a backbone. We should only care about our interest.

Don’t forget who builds the port...

If they own 19% then they will protect the port if under threat.

Maybe it’s a way to ensure SL is not attacked by its neighbors because of economic interests.

It’s also is strategic as well as economic.

There is nothing economic about giving 19% of your port to a landlocked country. Atleast the DP World claims they will invest in the port but Ethiopia got it for free.

Dumb move because the only leverage Somaliland had on Ethiopia was the port.

Once they own part of it then you lose that leverage.

Also it's in the interest of UAE that no one competes with them in the region in what they do.

Once they developed the port then it would be uneconomical to build another port again.

Leaving Somaliland depended on UAE.

No free lunches in this world I'm afraid.

No I just told Ethiopia will protect its investment with military power because it owns 19%, if it owned 0% then what is there to protect ? For instance...well let’s use our imagination....Puntland attacked for whatever reason the port, Ethiopia has investment to protect so it defends all of SL so ensure trade flows through the port, 3 countries have stakes in the port.

There is no logic to what you’re saying. SL , UAE and Ethiopia all benefit.

Keep telling yourself that.

A Faustian deal will end up biting you back.

Both countries would be happy to see Somalia under chaos for the rest of the century.

Do you really think they won't throw you under the bus when they no longer need you.

Do we benefit with a caos among our neighbors?

The world looks down on extremist Arabs no one takes them serious.

I feel sorry for Somalians they are getting bullied by hairy Arabs who are despised everywhere, the least sophisticated people on earth.
