Not really good comparisons, imo. The closest to the Somaliland situation would be North Yemen vs South Yemen, two totally bullshit divisions not based on history. The others have long historical traditions behind them.

North and south Yemen are not like Somalia. First North Yemen is shia now unlike south Sunni. Second, North Yemen ethnically are leftover Turk Iranian and Ethiopians unlike South Yemen who are true Arab tribes plus minority of Somalis, Indians. Third, South Yemen was not called once Yemen but rather "the southern states of Arabia ".
