Unpopular Opinions: Somali Edition (Weather thats from Back Home or The Diaspora) (Revamped Version)

I came across a really old somali dictionary and it made me realize that most of the loanwords we use today we already have a native word that could ’replace’ it. Instead of ixtiram there’s tixgalin, instead of laakin u have balse etc.

Im still chocked that fargeeto is not somali but italian πŸ’€ anyway there are somali native words for both spoon and fork, ive never heard of

Is Qaado Somali? Thats what I say for spoon.

u need to softlaunch this in Hargeisa first, if u come out alive head to Muqdisho

The last time a girl was walking through Hargeisa with pants she was chased around town by a male mob
I feel like it will be easier in Mogadishu, tbh. There are thousands of Somali influencers on TikTok with millions of followers who show their hair in Xamar, but they do it in private places like coffee shops, etc. Type in Bella Mavio on TikTok and scroll down. She was at the beach with the iconic lighthouse without a hijab.

Another unpopular opinion is why don’t we invest in Djibouti? They’ve had peace for years and deserve it more. Let’s leave Somalia alone and let them figure out that Qabil is taking them nowhere.

Another unpopular opinion is that Somali uncles fumbled in the West. Instead of becoming Uber drivers, they should've learnt a trade and done that. Whether it's plumbing, construction, or electricity, there's more opportunity for you to make much more money and potentially buy a house in cash.
You have to realize a lot of them just went through war. They lost parents, siblings, and so much family. Experienced extreme starvation, desolation, and homelessness. Not only that but they had to restart life in many different countries by themselves with no one to help them at all. Imagine experiencing the 1977 war and the Civil war they got displaced twice. And having to go to Europe and some went on to hop again to go to North America. Also many of our parents had educations back home that wasn't recognized here. Many of you say they fumbled but imagine all that trauma and I will have to say that they still came through triumphant. What I don't understand is how the kids born in the west with the best opportunities are not succeeding. But also you see people who have lived in e.g Canada for many years who are bums...

I see where youre coming from but you need to understand that they dont have the same opportunities as the younger generation of western Somalis (i.e their kids) plus they are giving their kids a future in their education (or at least are trying to)
