USAID was dismantled, impact on Somalia ?

People are forgetting that remittances are sent to family members, not the entire country. The government can't use that money; it can only use the taxes on it, and everyone knows how pathetic the governments are at taxing the population.

It should just focus all the government funds they have currently into a good army. Somalia's biggest issue is how unstable it is; without a lot more centralization no effective governance can be done.

Also, I think that the fact that USAID is gone is a good thing, it subsidised a government that would not survive without foreign aid, let's be real, the Mogadishu government doesn't control most of the country, and its policies work against the well-being of Somalia. The only people who have benefited are the presidents and their families.

i hope this foreign aid freeze incentivizes the population to actually take a bigger interest in their politics and demand more from the government, be it an Islamic state a la Iran or a secular state like the ones most of us live in. but the current situation cant go on for much longer.
this without centralisation somalia will never heal qabil, even extresim pales in comparison to the issue of a lack of centralisation why should people not seek alternatives like kebab or qabil when theyre the only systems that work

I agree, its very unempathetic and short-sighted. especially considering somali's in the west actually do add to the qabilism. Also qabilism is actually a product of our terrain, because of the scarcity of water and vegetation in Somalia means that the pastoralist communities have to fight over resources and land. in more forgiving terrains you don't see the same amount of fighting.

The lives of Somalis in Somalia are quite unfortunate and a result of bad policy and chronic instability, but they stay very entrepreneurial and make the best of their situation.

Actually, a summer in Somaliland and Ethiopia made me into a communist; it was very eye-opening, especially as a diaspora. The amount of poverty I saw was enraging, especially in "stable and democratic" Somaliland.
when i went to mogadishu i seen kids who shine your car and shoe for half a dollar or on the roads selling fruit in the sun. They could easily sit on the road and beg but they work for their money and preserve their dignity. without USAID they wont get the nuts that they resell on the side of road, or any slither of trickle down funding and will become poorer

People acting like USAID is just buskut dhiiq and peanuts, they teach farming methods, donate drought resistant seeds, teach rural communities about fertilizers.

Half you niggas grew up of state welfare or benefits and universal credit to feed urself in the west but hate on somalis in the middle of civil war getting some food aid, make it make sense

:russ:

Zeros affect . The US aid never benefited the average Somali to begin with . 75% of it went to security and amisom . The rest never gets past the greedy president himself and inner circles
