I think a lot of people look at Somalia from a western educated viewpoint which is completely wrong. We tend to look at it as if the government can fix things easily and that we have a lot of rescources to help ourselves — which is true to an extent. What we are talking about is fixing and unwinding DECADES of corruption and the government is making use with what little resources they have. Im not going to lie, they are still corrupt till this day but do they have a choice? The country barely has money to sustain itself, theres an insurgency terrorist movement within the country all while fighting famine and drought from failed rainy seasons. The laws contradict each other and the people have become unmotivated to the point where the citizens are leaving the country in droves in order to make the treacherous tahriib journey - often times losing their lives.
this and more is what the weak corrupted government is facing. Now, whilst the europeans are playing chess right in our faces by deploying ngos and buying land, somalis are fighting and offing each other due to the sole reason of QABIIL. “[My tribe is this and that’ ‘we are boqortooyo]” implemented and exacerbated by the diaspora and promoted on dajjal apps such as twitter, tiktok, instagram, telegram and even this site. Do we even know whats happening in Xalane? Crime rates? Whos funding AS? Foreign Interests? And, are we doing anything about it? These are the real questions we need to honestly ask ourselves if we want to continue.
Also a lot of people are really going to disagree on this opinion, but qabiil must be abolished. Everything has its time and must come to an end. 500 years into the future all these qabiils will either:
A. Not exist
B. Exist but history will be extremely distorted to the point where these clans wont be legitimate.
Instead, one solution would be to write down the history of each clan and build an national archive to preserve our tongue, dignity and history whilst moving forward into the future, educated and providing for new generations, dropping qabiil in favour of a new national movement.
I would like to finish off with a quote from Elman Ali Ahmed:
Drop the Gun, Pick up the Pen.
