I grew up around them in the UAE. The school I went to in Dubai was owned by a Masariyad and was like 60-70% or more Masari at one point. Waa good folks. Boisterous, loud and hilarious as well. We have similar vibes as peoples. You automatically get like a 90% discount on all Egyptian historical exhbits due to the Arab league membership as well if you flash a Somali passport and sometimes the exhibit security guards will give you preferential treatment and let you see areas they will refuse other ajanabis due to closing times or whatever else.

The only experience i have with them is with my brief 3 week vacay and family visit in Egypt and it is positive with the Masjid near, both the imam and the people there were some of the most wholesome people i've met.

Negative in so far as that we got scammed so many times i lost count. Scammed by the taxi, scammed by every store i visited, one even sold me a fake iphone charger that was held together with clear tape inside.

Me and my cousin got a knife pulled on us by some youth from and to our walk to the store, gave them some pocket change , luckily we didn't take anything with us. It was my first time getting mugged.

My trip to the pyramids was just the worst, got scammed there as well. As the taxi pulled up towards the entrance some fake guides leaped jumped onto the hood of the car to make it stop, we almost ran them over. We were like wtf and they made us ride horses and camels, but then because we wouldn't pay extra they spent the entire trip talking crap about us in Arabic thinking that we couldn't understand them.

The entire walk to the pyramids and the tombs just consist of people haggling you all the time , trying to scam and sell you stuff. It's like a maze trying to dodge them and there is no clear understanding of what is legit and what is not legit , as they will even pose as if you have to pay them to continue through it , when in reality they are just random citizens and they don't work in the tourism industry.

To be fair i don't really hold much of this against them, its clearly the military government that deprived them of economic opportunities and made them desperate.

but yeah , i want to meet some more Egyptians in a different context where they are not trying to squeeze a buck out of you. The people in the masjid group were super chill, funny and had stories for days.

My experience with Egyptians in Australia has been uniformly great; my Egyptian neighbours from years back were some of the kindest people I've ever met

Some of the Egyptian boys I hanged out had a good sense of humour
