What's the book the last page was taken from?
Found it dumb me. It's written on the top

الإلمام بأخبار من بأرض الحبشة من ملوك الإسلام

It's from one Al-Maqrizi's books i think , he is reporting on news from Muslims who visited Christian Ethiopia and the Muslim kingdoms of in the region.. Dawud Bin Yusuf Araad is Dawit I son of Newaya Krestos

He who commands at Berbera, holds the beard of Harar in his hand,” is a saying which I heard even within the city walls - Richard Burton.

If these barbarians were so uneducated and angry why would they be ruled by foreigners? Even when hararis had a emirate they were still reliant on somali states for trade

the walls of harar were not made for "Somalian Black Barbarians"

It's hilarious. Somalis controlled the trade camel caravan and commerce of the city to export out of our own coastal ports and was the majority craftsmen inside the town, the main clergy class and cultivated cash crops like coffee and other crops in the vincinity of the Harar.

Burton also shows that the Amirs carried the same genealogy as most Somalis.

''they are Jabartis... They derive themselves from the Caliph Abubakr, or from the Akil, son of Abu Talib and brother of Ali'''

Also he was told when he visted the area that the name Harar comes from a name of a Somali tree.

The irony is that we have written documentation that the walls were made to keep out oromo invaders. When you add that with the fact that Harari are just Oromo and Gurage that recently named themselves after a city after entering it and one of the Somali Amirs used them to usurp power in the 1800s from a relative.

The Harari language is East Gurage and the Gurage were mentioned to be non-Muslim under subject of Christian Ethiopia in Futuh.

There is no record of any group called Harari prior to the 19th century, nor are they mentioned in the Futuh or other manuscripts related to the sultanates. Most of the earlier accounts by visitors just document as inhabited by Somalis in larger parts.

You know i might make a article/thread systematize the evidences going through primary sources to refute the false claims ethiopians make and some misconceptions, 1 one after the other. So we can have it all in one place and people can just link it.

Both Awdal and Awfat are depicted as camel herding pastoralists. And some of the sources that describe them that way comes from Ethiopians themselves that remember them as such.

The camel was the marker of being Muslim and why Ethiopians formed taboo against it. So imagine how ignorant it must be to try and drag Somalis by describing them as nomads

Plus Somalis had a vibrant textile/clothing industry from the medieval times until our modern time.

The clothless ones were Ethiopians:

Its ridiculous. You could easily find actual photos of 19th century Somalis wearing clothing, the richer and more elite Somalis covering themselves better. Not to mention there are plenty of sources that mention or describe Somalis wearing clothing and being well dressed as well.

Whats ironic is that back then in the 19th century, they were upfront about their origins. The Hararis were consciously aware their origins being East Gurage who in turn were from Tigray and some of them were open about being from the Ala Oromo tribe that spoke the Gurage language.

Similarly for Argrogoba that were frank that they were Amhara colonizers that came down from the upper plateu at the turn of 20th-19th that took on the the name of a province and they had no connections to, nor to sultanate either.

But today they are doing modern revisionism.

The nomads would actually colour the white cotton clothing in natural dye from plants. So the brown, red and yellow colour comes from this.

It's where the alindi colour pattern comes from, that become a characteristic Somali textile piece.

Went through this in another thread before, even the class difference in clothing styles
They don't know what Somali culture is, waa jahiil.

The left thumbnail he shows men wearing ''two futa'' which is also what Arabs and Northern African bedouins dressed in. I can easily claim this to be Arab culture, if i follow his logic

GSdob-jXYAAAoE1

And on the right thumbnail photo he shows sheikhs wearing thobes and caps. Somalis from the past and especially the upper classes also wore thobes/qamis, cloaks and skull caps(Koofiyad), turbans(mamad) so how is this Arabization? when they are dressed in the same way as the past and it was part of our culture as well.

The all start from a false invented premise where ignorant Somalis don't understand their own regional history can't see we that Somalis , even before Islam was just a cultural extension of Northern Africa and Arabia.

If they want to create a create a cultural dress code, do what other communities have done re-invent what that richer/wealthy upper classes wore, not from what some poor bedouins/common folk wore and create new style around it if you must.

1300s and 1500s description of Somali dress code and the separation between upper class and common folk:

s. Most of the earlier accounts by visitors just document as inhabited by Somalis in larger parts.

Not just that, saaxiib, they were by their own admission, for generations marrying a Somali qabiil and most likely kept at it because they needed to ensure smooth trade along the routes to Berbera and Saylac. They knew that without consistent Somali ties, Harar was donezo. That Amir himself most likely had a Somali/Bartire mother:

"The Amir Ahmed’s health is infirm. Some attribute his weakness to a fall from a horse, others declare him to have been poisoned by one of his wives.30 I judged him consumptive. Shortly after my departure he was upon the point of death, and he afterwards sent for a physician to Aden. He has four wives. No. 1. is the daughter of the Gerad Hirsi; No. 2. a Sayyid woman of Harar; No. 3. an emancipated slave girl; and No. 4. a daughter of Gerad Abd el Majid, one of his nobles. He has two sons, who will probably never ascend the throne; one is an infant, the other is a boy now about five years old."

"The Berteri, who occupy the Gurays Range, south of, and limitrophe to, the Gallas, and thence extend eastward to the Jigjiga hills, are estimated at 3000 shields.27 Of Darud origin, they own allegiance to the Gerad Hirsi, and were, when I visited the country, on bad terms with the Girhi. The chief’s family has, for several generations, been connected with the Amirs of Harar, and the caravan’s route to and fromBerberah lying through his country, makes him a useful friend and a dangerous foe. About the Gerad Hirsi different reports were rife: some described him as cruel, violent, and avaricious; others spoke of him as a godly and a prayerful person: all, however, agreed that he had sowed wild oats. In token ofrepentance, he was fond of feeding Widads, and the Shaykh Jami of Harar was a frequent guest at his kraal."

Note how his first and principal wife is the Somali daughter of the Garaad Xirsi. One of the Amir's chief politicians who often represented him in local dealings with neighboring polities and tribes is also a Somali of this tribe:

"Shortly after arrival, I sent my Salam to one of the Ulema, Shaykh Jami of the Berteri Somal: he accepted the excuse of ill health, and at once came to see me. This personage appeared in the form of a little black man aged about forty, deeply pitted by small-pox, with a protruding brow, a tufty beard andrather delicate features: his hands and feet were remarkably small. Married to a descendant of the Sherif Yunis, he had acquired great reputation as an Alim or Savan, a peace-policy-man, and an ardent Moslem. Though an imperfect Arabic scholar, he proved remarkably well read in the religious sciences, and even the Meccans had, it was said, paid him the respect of kissing his hand during his pilgrimage. In his second character, his success was not remarkable, the principal results being a spear-thrust in the head, and being generally told to read his books and leave men alone. Yet he is always doing good “lillah,” that is to say, gratis and for Allah’s sake: his pugnacity and bluntness—the prerogatives of the “peaceful”—gave him some authority over the Amir, and he has often been employed on political missions amongst the different chiefs."

Even after the overthrow, these guys were literally being ruled by dudes with Somalis mothers.

:dead:

It's because the Amirs were Somali from their paternal side as well, why else would they carry our genealogy? so they were practicing the same inter-clan marriage alliance as does other Somali leaders. The Amirs of Harar would often intermarry Geri and Bartiree that lived in and around Harar

This only changed when one of them were adopted by Gurage speaking Oromo in a marriage alliance and Somalis in Harar appealed to Egyptians protection.

This is actually described by a visitor in the area before Burton talks about him taking the city and him usurping the power and were put his own uncle who was the former Amir into jail.

The Harari's themselves were pretty much concious of their East Gurage origins

Even though Harari is not mentioned. Gurage is mentioned in the Futuh as non Muslim peasants who were subjects of Ethiopians and they did not participate in the war or were warriors.

Similarly the same for Argobba.
And researchers have investigated Argobba and its the same case for them they have no connections to the land or of Awfat and some was peasants from the upper plateau and some of them were Amhara colonizers who came to the area in the 19th century and took on the regional name:

and with the Afar
The same goes for Afar, they are ot mentioned in any texts connected to Awdal/Awfat and when they are mentioned its in area further north by the by Eritrean seashore allied with Abyssinia, independent from Awdal.
