Interestingly unlike the claims of many, charcoal still looks like it’s exported to UAE/Oman.
This was the minister of Climate Change/Environment on a visit to JL.

This is a big problem for all of us. Just before you enter afgooye there’s rows of massive trucks filled with trees all on route to xamar to be sold as charcoal. Both FGS and Jubaland admin have to adress this issue before we get hit with a drought we can’t come back fromWe know where it came from
I’ve dropped evidence after evidence on this topic before I realised its only based in political motivations. How can mass deforestation happen in Somalia with no machinery and a tiny population/large land mass?? Not even to mention the small time frame or the fact that AS restricted it in the Jubbas where they use trees for cover.N&N has been making propaganda against Jubbaland and it has been debunked many times.
Here’s a large field of charcoal that was left behind by AS in Baraawe. Baraawe & Muqdisho are the 2 biggest ports currently being used for charcoal exports.
yet if we compare the difference in appearance on satellite imagery from MSB till now the difference in the Jubbas is marginal.
Firstly your showing a zoom on Kismayo district. Which is characterized for that large patch of red soil. The growth youve shown is only from Yoontooy to Bibi and isnt on the current google earth anyways.
You can bring all the facts but they will
I don’t agree with your statement “yet if we compare the difference in appearance on satellite imagery from MSB till now the difference in the Jubbas is marginal.”Firstly your showing a zoom on Kismayo district. Secondly We arent talking about general loss of vegetation in the drought stricken horn clearly this is about JL losing it at a faster or special rate due to deforestation. Gedo Bay and Bakool being the epicenter of land going barren in the south shows its about more then lowscale deforestation.
Using disasterous droughts as a politcal tool against an admin was a tool invented by the CBB though so im not surprised seeing you returning to your roots

Heres another photo straight from Google earth showing the same level of dark green in the Jubbas everywhere outside of Kismayos environs of Yoontoy, Berhani, and Buulo XaajiView attachment 255600
I don’t believe JL had more deforestation than SWS or Hiirshabelle.@World If we are going to do semantics marginal can be however large we want clearly the context of the conversation around this is JL having a special ongoing case of charcoal production and an exceptional regionwide loss of vegetation in comparison to other regions within Somalia who also go through drought.
