Xawaash is used in two ways: to refer to cumin and to refer to a variety of spice. Both are understood in different ways like son and sun. The person will know in what context xawaash is being referred to. You can even check any Somali food video on YouTube when they show xawaash being dropped into a pot. It's cumin being dropped.
