I think it is a western thing. We butt heads since Somalis go to Arab mosques and Muslim organization. Even Pakistani/ Bangalis would have a problem. They would say things like just because you are Arab doesn't mean you have more of a right to Islam. Maybe it is insecurity. I know Arabs can be racist but aren't we all. Somalis as a group, we cant be openly xenophobic and then complain when people are xenophobic back. They will laugh in your face. Its like the boy who cried wolf.

Also, in my area there was a huge fight between Somalis and Lebanese teenagers.

in America we have our own mosques, I went to an Arab mosque and I was Caught out when it came to the Attahiyat, they all knew I was Somali lol.

I don’t get this weird revisionism some people do to make it seem like Arabs have never wronged us. Omani Empire? Khedivate of Egypt (+ the British)? When examining many posts from this forum or elsewhere, there are three spectrums that people fall into. I would characterise this has the right,center and the left. We will first examine the right. This is just my anecdotal viewpoint.

The people in this spectrum have forsaken their roots and place destain to their forefather. I have heard these people say we shouldn't look at any history before the advent of islam IE when it comes to pre-islamic practice such as religion, old customs or historically note worthy accomplishments. Ironically, these people are aware that we study the pre-Islamic Arab world or the pre-people of the books. I can discuss more, but hopefully you got the gist of it.

Now we go into the second spectrum. The left is the opposite of the right.

These people believe that Arabs enslaved Somalis. They have a resentment towards the Arabs as they believe they have caused a great deal of harm to Somalis. These people are your typically hotap/afro centrist who believe that we shouldn't be in the arab league or have any with association with them . These people dislike Islam all together or leave Islam as they believe it was enforced on us and preach thst we should go back to our ancestor's way of life or adopt another religion.


Now we go into the center where most sensible people are. These are what you call the chads.

These people understand that we have a stronger connection to Yemenis than to west africans. These people are proud of who they are, a Muslim and Somali. These people don't hate arab(muslims) or place them on pedestals but view them as part of the ummah. They name their children somali names like ayaan and warsame. These people adorn traditional somali clothes. They have great admiration of sahaba, but there love doesn't compel them to having the same admiration to current Arabs.
