What makes a Somali?

You just need to be 100% Somali genetically, or at least 95% since I know these DNA companies usually don't give out 100% results.

There are no other requirements imo.

If a Somali child was kidnapped and then raised in the middle of Russia, not knowing the religion and culture of Somalia, they would still be Somali to me.

I agree 100%. Autosomal clustering must be what constitutes a Somali. Qabiil, dhaqan, and tariikh are all significant, but it's not a bench-marker, as it is very much inheritable. Heck, even when it comes to Haplogroups, Autosomal ancestry overrides it. It doesn't matter if you're Haplogroup R (hypothetically speaking; most likely recent admixture if ever to occur ); if you score more than 95% Somali, you are, in my opinion, a Somali.

I have a really close friend who used to flex that he was hawiye, HG specifically he had a whole abtirsi and everything. Turns out the guy only had 65% somali and was mixed with Eritrean. Too top it all off his haplogroup wasn’t even somali.

being somali means having somewhat of a connection with your ancestral homeland , have the capability to read , write or speak somali , and lastly being a follower of Islam is an integral part of our identity.

I went through a phase of doubt ngl but the older i become the more i realise Islam is part of who i am. Nobody is perfect and you can pick whatever brand of islam thats with goes in harmony with this confusing modern times. This video is what made it for me , and i hope others can benefit.
