This is a ranking of muscle groups based on their importance in achieving a lean, fit, and objectively attractive physique that’s admired by both genders. It’s not about aiming for a hyper-masculine look but rather a balanced, proportionate body that stands out for its aesthetics.

Let’s begin!

S-Tier : Shoulders
If you want to achieve an attractive physique—whether it’s a "pretty boy" look or a more masculine, powerful appearance—shoulders are absolutely essential. Wide, well-defined shoulders create the illusion of a broader upper body and a smaller waist. Focus on lateral raises, rear delt flys, and shoulder presses to build impressive shoulder development.

A-Tier
  • Lats
Lats are critical for creating the coveted V-taper: a wider upper body with a narrow waist. While big shoulders can make up for smaller lats, the reverse doesn’t look as good. Lats add an athletic and proportional look, making them a must-have in this tier.
  • Chest
A developed chest looks great, especially in fitted clothing, where it enhances the illusion of a smaller waist. While it’s important for balance, the chest is often overhyped by gym enthusiasts. It’s great to have but not the most essential muscle group.
  • Abs
Abs are a hallmark of low body fat and are often the first thing people notice when shirtless. That said, they require a lot of dieting and effort, and they’re only noticeable without a shirt. While they add to an aesthetic physique, your energy might be better spent focusing on the V-taper.

B-Tier
  • Biceps
Biceps are nice to have, but they’re not essential for a great physique. Overdeveloped biceps can look cartoonish, while smaller ones paired with strong shoulders, lats, and chest can still look fantastic. They’re important, but not a top priority.
  • Triceps
Triceps make up most of your arm size, but they’re often appreciated more by men than women. If you want thicker arms, focus on triceps and brachialis, but like biceps, they’re not essential for an aesthetic look.
  • Upper Back
A strong upper back enhances your physique, especially in fitted clothing or shirtless. While it looks great, it’s not as critical for aesthetics as shoulders or lats.

C-Tier
  • Forearms
Forearms can enhance a masculine look, but they’re not as impactful as other muscle groups. They’re nice to develop, but they won’t make or break your physique.
  • Glutes
Developed glutes show athleticism and fitness, especially when you’re lean. You don’t need to go overboard, but don’t skip leg day either. A balanced lower body complements the rest of your physique.
  • Hamstrings
Hamstrings are mainly about balance and stability. They’re important for health and proportionality, but they won’t stand out visually.
  • Calves
Calves are more of a personal preference. Thick calves can add a hyper-masculine look, but overly developed calves can make you look shorter and take away from the V-taper. Lean, athletic calves often look better.
  • Quads
Quads are functional but not particularly sought after for aesthetics. Overdeveloped quads can make your legs look disproportionate compared to your upper body. Keep them balanced, but they don’t need excessive focus.
  • Lower Back
A strong lower back is great for health and stability, but it doesn’t stand out much in terms of aesthetics.
  • Neck
Developing your neck depends on your overall physique and personal preferences. If you have a thin neck, it might be worth focusing on, but it’s not a priority for most people.

D-Tier
  • Obliques
Avoid overdeveloping your obliques if you’re aiming for an aesthetic physique. Bigger obliques make your waist look wider and harm the V-taper, which is one of the most attractive features. For aesthetics, it’s best to skip oblique-focused exercises.

For an attractive physique, focus on muscle groups that enhance the V-taper, like shoulders, lats, and chest. Abs add to the look, but they require a lot of effort and don’t show unless shirtless. Biceps, triceps, and calves can add polish to your physique but aren’t as essential. Avoid overdeveloping obliques, and remember, proportions and balance are key to achieving the look you want.
