The only anti religious thing that I can remember is something that happened in the 70s. Basically Siad Barre decided to change inheritance law so that women could inherit the same amount of money as males, some religious authorities protested a lot against the governement because they said it was haram to change inheritance laws. The Siad regime responded by arresting many Shaykhs and some of them were executedThat’s interesting to learn.
My parents weren’t exceptionally religious. They prayed of course, they fasted, and my mum wore shaash/ilyar and diracyaal/dresses. I can understand more religious people would have struggled if there was a policy against their particular believes and dress.
