11th grade. About 3 years ago. I drove to the Taco Bell for a cheat meal. Got the soft taco, and brought my cuunto back to the lunchroom.
Carmen comes walking past me. We joke about my taco, and she keeps calcaaling about how what I’m eating isn’t a taco. I tell her this is the only taco I know of, show me this OG taco you’ve been talking about.
She says “I will”.
My internal reaction is something like this.
Kkk I assume it’s all jokes, but she actually brought some tacos her mom made for dinner to the lunchroom.
They looked like this.
It looked nothing like the tacos I’ve been eating, but she’s Mexican so I assume her taco knowledge is far greater than mine.
I place the weird looking tortilla and beef structure onto a tissue, and take my first bite. The flavor hit me like a quarter ton truck. The heat hit me first, but then the tanginess and love put into the fold comforted me.
I don’t know if there was magic in it, but it was like an explosion of love and care in that tortilla.
Authentic street tacos hit differently.
