For Minneapolis it is actually worth it, that is if u can survive all the problems.. ie trying not to get killed, getting ur self in controversy, preventing urself from being put on admin. leave. But they increased the salary of cops so much in response to all of the ones that left and the massive cuts they did after george floyd. Now salarys start at 90K and you will be making mid 100k pushing 200K as a police officier. Also I remember a couple years ago me and my friend were looking up minneapolis gov jobs and this DEI job was wallahi it was pulling a quarter million per year. ITs absolutely wild.
I dont think theres anything wrong with a cop, as long as ur not a xaasid who camps for speeding tickets. All youre doing is serving the community while putting youre life on the line, Its even better if they act as informats to bust somali crime, in fact that should be more then welcomed. I always found it stupid to discourage somalis from becoming police officers or from joining the military.

Especially now that I've been active on Somalispot. We've spoken numerous times about how a certain part of our community grew up with bad parenting and had no proper guidance in life. Becoming a police officer or joining the military would help a lot of these people break into the middle class.

I literally know Madows and Hispanics that broke into the middle class with the help of the military. They all worked in jobs related to IT, cyber security, health care, and trade work. You can literally become an air traffic controller, respiratory therapist, radiology tech, and etc with the military.

There's a bunch of Somali men that bring up wanting to break into tech. Specifically into cyber security. When it comes to cyber security, the companies that pay the most are government contractors. With a security clearance and work experience you can earn 200k+. A lot of cyber guys coming out of the military can easily get 6 figure job opportunities.

In regards to police work, a lot of cities and suburbs pay police officers pretty well. You can earn on avg 80-100k depending on the area you live in. If your worried about dealing with crazy shit in the city than you can easily find a suburb with less action.

Our religion of Al-Islam has an extensive level of flexibility and rulings for different circumstances, however we cannot be the rules and change them depending on context - we are principled individuals.

When I watched this guy in a police doc on the BBC I got the feeling he was doing a bit too much. He would always lunge in first to dangerous situations ahead of his white colleagues and even rugby tackled a mentally ill somali guy in the documentary. Almost like he was trying to over compensate. I know of one or two Somali guys in the in the met and they seem to be the type of guys who mainly chill with white guys on the weekend. I am not sure if that’s because of their networks or a cause of Somalis harassing them.

It is actually not that hard to become a police officer in the UK. Some people over exaggerate the role. With a degree and a 2 year course I believe, I believe they will even upgrade you to a detective without prior experience.
