Whats up with tik tok Somali beauty standards?

So I went on tik tok and used the somali hastags and when down the rabbithole of watching women dance/ lipsync to Somali songs. Why are do so many of the women look so similar: bleached skin, some are very ashy but most use a yellow filter, chubby, etc.? And they get a lot of engagement too. Since when have people become proud of promoting toxic shit? I really loved this Somali song so I clicked the hashtag and wtf is this? This woman is literally white like how is this normal? And tik tok is supposed to be for younger people so when kids see this arent they going to be influenced? Also are Somalis not concious about what they do online especially in hijabs because why is this woman sucking on a bottle?

Its like that in most third world countries. If the nation is poorer, people will think having a higher fat % is more attractive. Beauty has always been connected to wealth.

In the West, its mostly the poor and the working class that are fat. If you've noticed, most Chicken&chips shops are situated in working class areas, whilst most organic vegetables and fruits markets are in more affluent areas.

Beauty has always been connected with class and money. In Somalia, its upper/middle class women that are fat and light skin. They can afford a lot of food, they're shaded from the sun and bleach, a khadamah to cook and clean so that they can sit on their ass all day. Whilst in the West, a slim tanned body is associated with wealth. You can afford gym memberships, organic foods and holidays twice a year.

Point is, due to the over-saturation of prominently foreign media Somalia has been influenced and are connecting fair skin color as high socioeconomic status as they compare themselves to these foreign actors who are living in mansions and then looks at themselves in their “” and so for the vain pursuit of validation they post lip-syncing videos on TikTok showcasing their bleached skin.
