Macawiis the Sarong was originally worn with local cotton and sometimes dyed with colour stripes and have been worn by Somalis for centuries

Then the fabric was replaced with one made of silk or polyester /nylon introduced from India with different colour paterns 1970s. The way Somalis wear it differs from the way Indonesians wear it.

Indonesians and Malaysians actually got the sarong and and their hats from the Yemeni traders that settled there.

Fun fact, a lot of Yemenis moved to Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore centuries ago and set up trading communities. They introduced things like coffee, clothes, food and Arabic language to these communities. Many people from these countries today actually have ancestry from Yemen. One of my friends is an Indonesian that’s a quarter Yemeni.

If you go to major cities in that region, you’ll find streets dedicated to Arab restaurants. These countries were also a popular destination for Yemeni immigrants due to the history.

TLDR: Somalis and Malays/Indonesians have a lot in common but it’s actually mainly due to the Hadramawti traders that settled in those countries that brought the common culture there.

What’s the evidence for Yemenis bringing it there? Sarong type kilts seem very common in across South Asia even amongst Hindus and Buddhists

In Hadramawt it is called Sarun, is this is a native Arabic word or just burrowing of the Malay word?

In other parts of Yemen it’s called macaws.

I think we have to be careful in exaggerating the Arab influence sometimes. Gujarati traders had as much of cultural trade impact in the coastal east Africa yet no one ever mentions them. Also, many people in indo and Malay do not have Yemeni ancestry. It’s all exaggerated claims like Somalis.

Mogadishu had a trade station in Malacca filled with Somali merchants, not the other way around. Mogadishu had one of the most famed textile industries in the medieval Islamic world, Malaysia and Indonesia did not. Yet everything continues to be attributed to a foreign source.

You’re wrong yet again here you have a Somali Arab booty clapper who worships his overlords the Arabs. The sarong was introduced to Indonesia from India the way Hinduism was introduced to Bali thousands of years ago from India stop spewing lies because you want everything attributed to Arabs.

Wallahi these people want everything attributed to the Arabs because they worship them it is why they themselves would rather die for Palestine under the guise that they are also “Muslims” instead of their homeland they are anti African and pro Arab.

Hinduism was introduced to Bali, you’re right.

Want to take a guess on who spread Islam in Indonesia/Malaysia?

I’ll give you a hint.

Take a look at this map and tell me why Indonesia and Malaysia are Shafici madhab.

Do you provide a source?

Because similar clothing in Indonesia is work among the many Hindu and Buddhist cultures in the region. Which btw differs from the Somali style.

All of this you attribute to some small traders from Yemen 😂😂

Horta why do you Arab worshippers think everything that developed in the Muslim world is attributed to them?

I am confused? Provide a source for what? Pastoralist wrote sarong was brought to Indonesia by Hadrami traders; I said it could well be the other way around. What’s your argument?

The sarongs worn in Bali, that have Hindu influence are of a different texture and patterns than the Malaysian/Indonesian Muslim ones.

The Muslim male sarong in Malaysia/Indonesia is practically similar to the macawis of Somalia.

Malaysian Muslim attire: As you can see, the full clothing, hat, shirt, are all East Africa/Southern Arabia inspired:

Balinese Hindu attire: This has Indian influence:

Bruh if you guys haven’t been to Malaysia or Indonesia fadlan just do some research.

There has been exhaustive research done on the impact of Yemeni traders in that area.

Not everything is “bootyclapping”.

I coined "bootyclapper", especially "Ayrab bootyclapper".

Whats your former nickname?

Do you have the source for this? Also Somalis under the Ottomans fought in Indonesia against the Portuguese, we have some interesting history together.
