No, I think someone with a complex is constantly approval-seeking and white knights for people whose efforts would be unreciprocated if the tables were turned or, at most, indifferent. It's about keeping the same energy. Granted, some Somalis online are performative in their appreciation of others, bordering on sycophantic, sometimes unknowingly. There is no issue with them dialling it down a bit.

Also, for some context, @Araabi is well-learned and speaks Arabic at an advanced/scholarly level. Baselessly calling him someone with an inferiority complex is equivalent to a functionally illiterate American calling a professor of linguistics uncredentialed.

Somalis aren’t a monolith but I’ve noticed anytime Arabs are in the news, a lot of our community runs to insert themselves to praise Arabs. This is never reciprocated. When Somalis are being defamed, they ignore it and never want to be associated with us. When we are being mocked, they join in. I just want the constant bootlicking to stop.

They also like to brand our successful people as Arab, they completely ignore the Somali label when talking about them. Even Halima Aden deeped this and called them out a few years back

Even the MOU that happened in Jan 1st didn't reach global headlines. Somalis didn't protest or blew up the internet. Just bickered about tribal conflict like usual. Instead of the huge international violation that it was.

The least Somalis could do is not mock the issues back home and speak about Somali news and Somali people with respect. They don’t even do that. When the Ethiopia - somaliland deal became known on Somali twitter, Somalis made a viral joke out of it.

So imagine how sad it looks to see our own people showing more sympathy and support for ajnabis who couldn’t care less about you. Overall, Somalis need work on their self respect. Our issues are not a joke. Overly praising ajnabis and dissing your own people will never sit right with me.
