But don’t you agree apathy to some part is selfish when we live privileged lives compared to many in Somalia.

The only thing that separates us and from them is we were lucky to be born in the west. Most of us didn’t do anything to earn this privilege unlike those who fled for a better life.

Whilst it stupid to have this naive notion that you can change things on the large scale but minor changes can happen. Enough minor changes from enough people can shift things even if it were small.

I think why I can’t be totally apathetic to Somalia is because i feel a sense of survivor guilt. I think this is what drives many other somalis living in the diaspora too.

With Gods help everything is possible. God will help the humble and oppressed people. We have to be humble to god, pray, we have to be change that we want to see and than things will change.

Somalis need a strong national identity, Somali need Somali nationalism, Somalis need a strong Somali community in Somalia and the diaspora, Somalis need
Interests groups, media, diplomatic power.

Somalis need reflect from the past and create an ideal future. Maybe a centralized state would be better than clan based federalism, local administration made of religious leaders and community leaders, promoting education, separating ethnic/religious/qabil

I agree chances of a major overhaul are slim but minor changes over a long enough period is possible. We may never see a prosperous somalia in our lifetime but if we can leave somalia in a better position for the future generations than it was in our youth imo we succeeded.

There is significant changes and improvement in Mogadsho today than it was twenty years ago. In 2004 No one will ever dare to walk in the streets of Mogadishu in bright daylight, and today people are doing their shopping at 8pm. People are doing business 24/7 restaurants and shops are open till late midnight.
