I get it, it's inherently true that parents are blood and bones, but disposability isn't the mindset for marriage, or its doomed from the start. It's a spouse and the possible parent to your child, not a boyfriend/girlfriend. The two should not be in conflict for your affection and care, and unless one or the other are horrible ppl, they won't be. If there's a shitty parent in the picture, its up to the child of that parent to recognize that and smoothe the situation over. If its your spouse that's the problem, you hash it out.

I get where you're coming from. But if my parents became elderly and didn't have the ability to take care of themselves and somehow the spouse refused to have them move in with us, I'm choosing my parents. That's what I was trying to say earlier when I first quoted you.

Lately, Somalis who work in retirement homes have discovered other Somalis who have been left there by their family, who have never visited since.

One report in particular is a Somali girl who worked as a nurse in a retirement home who found a coherent Somali male who was unkempt. He sobbed as he told her that his kids left him here when his wife died, and his bad English couldn't save him from being declared incapable.

I know Somalis aren't like Indians or Pakistanis who make their parents move in with them after their honeymoon but is there a point in your life where you will care for your parents or leave them in the care of others?

I got so many siblings, my parents will have lots of kids/grandkids who will be looking after them when they reach old age. They got an army ready to catch them.
