Where does the name Abdi come from?

Abdi is such an embarrassing name, how are you gonna call your child a fucking slave? Ceebta aduunka.

I don't think the parents call the child just Abdi though, it's usually the child themselves that shorten it. This isn't really an issue in Somalia, just the West.

Arabic names or words have different meaning at same time, abd could either mean a slave or worshipper at the same time. So there are being an worshipper and a slave. Abdullah means worshipper of Allah. And abdo is the short nickname for abdul-x in in some Arab countries and some shortened it as Abdah, and Abdi is the Somali style of shortening of that name.
