Wikipedia stats isn’t reality…having said that on paper somalis are low income…70% of Somalis men over 35 in minnepaolis drive truck or Uber as independent contractor..they easily make over 100k a year in profit (my whole family is truck drivers so I know for a fact). Since they are small business owner/self employment the government doesn’t know their income so they self report they made $25k for the following reasons:

1.25k is low income for a family and if they have kids they get huge tax credits (7-10k). Right now us gov is paying an extra $300 per month per child tax credit for those making under 75k..so if they got 5 kids that’s a nice chick if change…

2.qualify for low income housing…instead of paying market rent for 3bed room $1700+ They pay get section 8 and pay $200-300 a month..downside to this is it discourages Somalis from buying homes in the US..why buy a house when you can rent for cheap with section 8

3. low income means they qualify for more social programs (free college for kids)

Somalis in the USA take advantage of the opportunity to make good money as self employed while reporting low income and taking advantage of the government benefits..then they go back to kenya/Somalia as ballers…our parent generation are hustler I have to give it to them.

this is changing with the educated second generation though..who are more likely working professional jobs, having less kids, buying houses..they are less likely to report low income because theywant toqualify for loan to buy big houses/cars/ etc…plus a lot of them don’t have a desire to go back to Africa (especialy the young professional women). Fobs still thinklike the old heads and doing same as above.

They mostly all live either in flats or in shitty small row houses. It is extremely crowded there, everything is either urban or farmland, no nature. Their income levels may be high, but I think quality of life is higher in Western Germany and France.

Somalis living in Germany have such a comfortable life fr. A friend of mine lives in München and he got that far in life because of his parents. Somalis in France tend to be rich or middle class Djibouti’s

Aaahhh got ya. No we live the same as the Dutch, except we get aid from the government. The Dutch don’t get anything which makes them hate immigrants/refugees

Nah, the average for those in Southeast Africa is very low, especially Kenya where a huge portion of the Somalis are recent refugees from Somalia and live in bad conditions.

However, these guys have a top 10% segment that are well off, but the other 90% not so much. Those 10% flex on Somali social media distorting perceptions.

I agree with you. When talking about wealth, you have to take the average (per capita).
Somalis only see the top of the pyramid when discussing this issue about wealth. That is wrong. They see wealthy Somalis from Kenya flaunting their wealth on social media and assume all Somalis in Kenya are making big bank. They forget that there are millions of Somali nomads in NFD who are not as wealthy as the Somali elites living large in Nairobi.

Another thing to note,the African business environment is not an even playing field. Political power and connection matters a lot. No matter how good of a businessesman or an entrepreneur you are, if you are not from a laandheere tribe then your chances of business success become considerably lower. You got to have political godfathers from your clan/tribe doing the bidding for you in the corridors of power.

I do like $100k a year in Uber before expenses for the years I don't do IT work

No Uber driver makes that figure, otherwise everyone wouldve been an Uber driver. Maybe an Uber and Lyft driver in the bay area who works 16hrs every day can make close to 100k

Comes with its challenges and no it isn't just Bay Area that makes that and also the job has high turnover and its annoyances. Cincinnati drivers make consistently $1200 a week. Chicago even higher. East Coast same a lot.

The same reason we make a lot of money is same reason Truckers make a lot, no one wants to get down and dirty doing Uber driving lol. I do take a break from it and get Unemployment insurance when I can but past years I didn't have unemployment insurance.

Kids are ciyaalsuuq mostly due to bad parenting…Somali parents do a bad job of installing moral and manner in their kids…their focus is on quantity not quality..

I been to the uk, and I can confidently say Reer MN work harder and are doing better financially on average than Reer uk
