it’s disrespectful for actual African Americans because that term is for descendants of slaves bc they didn’t know what part of Africa they were from but now others such as immigrants think it’s okay to hijack that identity. shes Somali American not African American

Agreed, African American definitely is used to refer to descendants of slaves, every other African is known by their country like Nigerian Americans, Egyptian Americans, etc.
