In the early days Somalis married them because madhibans and yibro had the numbers; only after the Somalis grew larger they started labeling and distancing themselves from the madhiban native hunter gatherer people.

Madhibaan and Yibro weren't hunter gatherers, they were and still are artisan communities who intermarry. I think they started the discrimination because they were probably wealthier due to their skills but that it backfired once other Somalis became more powerful and wealthier.

I watched a documentary about discrimination of these clans and an interviewee who hails from the Yibir clan said that they're not related but they intermarry and that's why they're grouped together but I wasn't sure if it includes Gabooye who are Northerners.
