Puntland has been acting as a lynchpin holding Somalia together for 26 years. Puntland, by building up itself and helping to build the FGS, has made the argument that Somalia can reconstitute itself. It has made secession unlikely. The existence of a developing & democratizing state in northern Somalia makes Somaliland look unexceptional.
Puntland also aided SSC-Khatumo in humiliating Somaliland in 2023 and that humiliation remains quite painful for the traitors in northwestern Somalia.
