It seems to be a pandemic now? Most people are terrified of talking to someone new. When it comes to approaching women, this terror is multiplied by 100. In America it seems men have become women and women are becoming men. This scary part is that since so many fathers leave their family, men will adapt feminine traits unconsciously. They can only prevent this by taking conscious actions e.g. being in control of their emotions (stoic), not crying in front of people, being a provider if they want a family etc.

Being unable to look people in eye day to day is one thing. But men who’re scared to approach are usually justified to do so; if you’ve never received attention from women then you shouldn’t bother approaching.

I know when it started, the Metoo era, and after that no one wants to approach.
Who even approaches anyway. Don’t people just meet during social events (warm approach), online or through family/friends
95% of women go for the top 5% of men. Their standards only go down when they reach 30-35 and are looking for a simp they don't respect or love to provide. They will be bitter about not getting the man they want and treat you badly for it. Very few average men fall for it. Women are not looking for good men otherwise they wouldnt have babies with men who anyone could told to them would be bad husbands and fathers. I saw that around 70-80% of African Americans in America are fathered by the same 15-20% of men. It's not equally distributed.
Women who do that have low self-control/primitive dating strategy where they just go for the guy who gives them the most tingles and dopamine rather than a guy who’s better for them long term/more well rounded.
They follow their mother's dating strategy that picked their deadbeat father. Most Somali women who do get husbands use their tingles and dopamine. The ones who get married after 30 get married due to desperation. Only a few look at the right match long-term. There's categories.
I don't think men are necessarily afraid to talk to women. I just think that for some men, the dating world is considerably more cold. The reason has to do with online dating, as it provides a much wider amount of options for women (the quality of the relationship however is not so guaranteed).
In the past, if I lived in downtown Toronto, a woman's options would be limited to her overall social circle, and as a result, I just have to compete against about maybe 10-20 guys max.
However add in online dating, and now I'm competing against maybe 100 or so. (Not that it's bad for me specifically, as I'm on a different level

Also, culturally, the game has changed. A generation or so ago, free form sexual hook up based relationships were not as popular as it was now. And not all men (believe it or not) are interested in just hooking up. They'd prefer deeper relationships. Looks become a bigger factor now, especially in online dating, which is why incels also increased as well (a reductive explanation for incels specifically, as there's more to it).
So not only is the game colder, but the types of women a lot of traditional men would want don't exist as frequently anymore.
Now we add in internet addiction. A lot of men and women don't go outside. A lot of guys get roasted for this, but I think women also fit into this category as well. So, for those that want to touch grass so to speak, the options are again smaller. This is simply because the internet is addictive and a lot more stimulating than the outer world.
Finally there's the economic factor. Now I personally don't have a lot of issues with feminism, but it caused some unintended consequences on an economic level in tandem to other economic changes.
Basically, 50% of the population got added to the workforce. This increase in the workforce increases the supply of available labour (skilled or unskilled). Employers are then poised to give less wages (as more would compete for a job). Add in the fact that some jobs are also outsourced in different countries, and this competition becomes more fierce.
Now culturally, women haven't adjusted themselves to their expectations on men being materially affluent (despite this literally being a type of objectification), which causes a lot of men (not me baby, my money long and the card never declined
) to feel insecure and think they don't measure up.
Finally, marriage is essentially dead. More than 50% of marriages end in divorce. Men usually suffer more in divorces as they pay alimony and don't have custody of the kids. About 70% of divorces are initiated by women.
So to recap:
Women have the same expectations on men that they had before feminism.
Men have to compete more in regards to dating.
There are less traditional women for men who are into that.
It's harder to be economically secure.
Women still expect you to be rich anyway.
