Why did no major clan manage to unify Somalia before the Europeans arrived?

How do you know it wouldn’t have eventually happened without European intervention? You are making a big assumption.

Germany was split apart after unification for almost half a century by Russia and America. After the Soviet collapse, they were put back together by the west(another name for America)

Japan was nuked twice, ironically also by America and then had its top generals executed and was rebuilt in Americas image. We (I’m American) have 60k troops right now making sure they don’t act up.

These are poor examples imo, they are nations created in Americas image. An extension of the empire of you will. There are many half Japanese kids near those American bases if you get my drift and are looking for examples of what kind of countries these are.

There wasn't much reason to. Contrary to what some might think, Somaliweyn was historically very peaceful, Somali clans and polities traded and coexisted with each other without much major conflict happen between them. Japan on the other hand saw brutal civil war for over a century, a land ruled by warlords so that is why one eventually dominated the rest.

And of course, Japan was already a united entity since the early middle ages so the Sengoku period is more of an anomaly.

Japan was able to achieve this with their own type of clan system.

I don't think any clan system can out perform the others massively, without in the modern era teaming up with other countries or running the government (ie. Kacaan).

In europe if you had better technology you could farm more, and you could feed war horses and keep professional soldiers and through this system you could expand and take over more. So it comes from agriculture technology mostly I think and social systems that favour loyalty, like the Knight pledge of allegience to his Lord etc. This is how Europe came out of the dark ages slowly slowly over hundreds of years.

I get what you are saying but how about the Mongols? They were also nomadic pastoralists like us. I think they probably had a more egalitarian system whereas Somalis mostly don’t believe in that or meritocracy.

They had the best fighting technology in the world (cavalry archer) at the time and were extremely ruthless.

Japan was able to achieve this with their own type of clan system.

The clan system of Japan was established after the weakenss of kingdom of Yamato which ruled all of Japan.

The shenjuko jedai wasn't a period that formed Japan but a weakness era and the Tokugawa shogunate conquest revived Japan former unity

Probably because our population wasn’t that big. Very low population density to this day for huge land mass. It’s hard to take over all that land and make it worth your while when numbers not huge. Especially when you trying to tax and recoup costs of war efforts from nomadic population that will just vanish on you . Our clan system and climate kept us in stale mate. The climate also caped our population growth in past
