Why do certain Somali's accept the black/madow Identity fully without question?

Somalis that don’t want to be grouped with black people are not going about it correctly. Insulting mathows, mocking slavery and letting them know we have nicknames like j*reer for them makes us look racist.

Also our community in the west doesn’t even agree on one identity so it really just makes us look stupid and confused. We have idiots claiming arab and some idiots claiming that “somalilanders” are different.

I get wanting to have your own identity to be proud of but if everything we have representing us in the media about Somalis is negative, we might as well hide behind the black identity and stay quiet like Ethiopians and Eritreans until things change for us.

I know black people don’t see us as the same as them lol. I said most foreigners view us as different looking black people or mixed black people.

You do realise that by announcing to mathows you don’t consider yourself black it offends them right? They think you are looking down on them. They constantly hate on Dominicans bc they think Dominicans are looking down on black people. Be smart and stay quiet. Just call yourselves somali but stop telling the world you ain’t black. This discourse is so annoying

The fact that you associate people with dysfunction based on broad racial classification(s) is what is problematic. What needs to be done is actual disaggregation of data based on specific ethnic groups with a nuanced breakdown.

To lump, for instance, highly educated and thoroughly vetted Nigerian American 'economic immigrants' with South Sudanese 'asylum seekers' who may have been blocked access to formal education before their arrival makes no sense. The biggest objection to the broad Black racial label is the assumption of sameness across life outcomes and the portrayal of all as being despondent and downtrodden. Stereotyping and extreme generalization is an issue. Ignoring cultural, genetic, linguistic, religious, economic and historical differences. Therein lies the problem.

I've seen a lot of Somali people on social media saying it proudly that they are black. When they are pressed about what is black they are referring to ? they state the whole AA identity. The crazy aspect of all of this is these Somali's with this lost identity are in the largest Somali community in the States. Why have these Somali's in the largest Somali community lost there identity?
Because they have been influenced by modern day African American culture which is arguably the most prestigious in the country.

Why do you wanna be accepted as Arab when you’re on the African continent and considered to be black by the same Arabs you are begging to be apart of ? The Arabs themselves have no honor and you want to be apart of that how can Somalis who are darker than Ethiopians claim to be Arab or want to be apart of that world when all you will be is made fun of like the northern Sudanese who face nothing but ridicule and racism for claiming to be something they aren’t

No one on here is claim Arab. Who mentioned wanting to Arab? We are debating about eventually delineating from the madows and creating our own identity.
