Why do Irish people hate English people and England? What's the reason for this? Irish people were on twitter happy that England lost.

I think it has to do with the Irish being under British rule for a long time (even now, though it’s looser). The Irish for the most part don’t want to be a part of the UK for this reason. Also something about them being Catholics and the British being protestants, the British wanted to convert them but they refused. Pretty sure there’s more but that’s what I remember

800 years of British colonisation and oppression. They tried to make settlements of protestants to make Ireland their land, it only worked in northern Ireland which is why it is still part of the UK today. They even banned the Irish language which is the main reason it's largely not spoken in Ireland anymore. Also the Irish famine which only happened because Britain kept exporting food despite the population having none, which led to over 1 million starving to death and over 1 million emigrating. They also tried to block the Ottomans from giving aid because it would make the queen look bad. The population of Ireland before the famine was around 8 million, now it is 5 million as it never recovered.
