Why do Somali fathers allow macalins to beat their daughters?

Parents often egg them on and encourage it. I remember when the Macalin at my dugsi lost his beating stick (I think he accused us of stealing it) and one of the parents got him a new one šŸ˜‚
Yep that is how it was at my duksi as well loool. There was this one mother who would literally shout at her kids after heā€™d been beaten and crying his eyes out infront of the macaalin making it even more traumatizing for the kid, he was a little boy and whilst my duksi beat girls like crazy, I think the little boys got it even worse. So as far as Iā€™m concerned, these think pieces about Duksi macaalins needs to include the parents who are the number 1 enablers and culprits. Macaalins on average will only do what theyā€™ve been allowed to do.

And as for why Macaalins have been given free rein to beat its because culturally a Quraan teacher has been put on a pedestal and is seen as some sort of second parent. I donā€™t have an issue with that concept, whilst I was beat from time to time (not frequently, I was teachers pet). I have no ill feelings towards my Macaalins in fact I have a lot of respect for them. My community was tight knit and Iā€™ve known my Quraan teachers since I was like around 3 and in many ways they were fatherly towards me and made a huge effort towards my Islamic education. I think due to them I have a very good grasp of the deen compared to many others, however now that Iā€™m older I do see that their behavior is because of Somalis wayward perception of parenting which needs to challenged.

Someone in the comments pointed out something very trueā€¦ These macalins never put their hands on or allow other people to beat their own daughters but they are ok beating other peoples daughters..

Also some macalins are pervs they get a kick out of beating these little girls especially.

Where are the men in the community and why are they allowing this type of behavior?
Don't generalise, this is only a small percentage of deadbeat dads.

If you got beat you probably deserved it. I went to a Dugsi and many different islamic circles. I probably got a beating less than 2 or 3 times ever and that was because i got carried away mucking about with the other kids. The religion is not a Drama, Music or PE lesson you have at skl which are near useless subjects you'll never have to ever use. Dugsi islamic studies and Qur'an is the foundation of a life long journey. I still have my old tapes and recordings from my dugsi lessons in the late 90s. I use to recite like Shuraim and Ali Jaber. Till today i make dua for my teachers. They picked up on my brightness and i always won awards at competitions.

When sent back home a macalin tried to beat my autistic cousin who was 16 at the time (and very strong & aggressive btw) and my cousin beat the shit out of him lol the macalin didnā€™t touch anyone for a while after that
