Why do Somalis put Yemenis on a pedestal?

May Allah bless Yemen( The land our noble prophet صلي الله عليه وسلم praised) and it's noble people .

Say Aamiin everyone
Yemenis are basically Somalis with worse food. Allah bless them except for the ones that fought with Ethiopia.

can’t believe they sided with their bastards over their besties

What Somali puts yemen on a pedestal?

They got Conquered by Bloody Habasha bro how can we feel inferior to a people who've been conquered by our resident Mountain Dwellers we used to Karbaash.

The Somali beauty standard is curly hair, long neck, dark-ish Brown skin, small nose, two toned lips & tall height.

Basically the Somali look that isn't too different from average Somali.
Unlike other countries that get surgery to reach their beauty standards.
that's a lie bro. somalis, especislly the men, always equate beauty with yemenis. When a somali is light skinned, they always say "oh they look yemeni".

My nephew is light skinned and cute and they always say "oh he looks Yemeni". It's basicially considered a compliment in somali dhaqan.

because somalis feel inferior to arabs and consider light skin as epitome of beauty. op is telling the truth.
You’re a Bantu who goes under the knife to try looking like us.

I've seen this with older Somalis, especially hooyoyinka. Lkn this Yemen stuff kuma arag, just desiring to be light skinned.

Ngl Yemen is nothing to envy. Somalia is doing better as of right now even though they never recognize it in the media. Somali diaspora are doing better too if you ignore the youth in crime, a good amount are getting an education, I see many in school or in the trades. We are not inferior nor do we have complexes.

I have never seen a Somali who's put a Yemeni or anyone on a pedestal. That's not to say there aren't any, but generally Yemeni are nothing new to us. We've had contact with them for a long time and they're just seen as another neighboring ethnic group.

You mean certain tribes think this way. Don't throw all Somalis under the bus. The culprits know who they are.

Even a table has 4 legs

every stable building has a foundation

all successful groups and civilizations gather influences from different parts of the world

No man is a island

Alhamdulilah they are good neighbors and our relationship with Yemen as a neighbor is mutual , may Allah grant them safety and stability

I think that there's a difference between claiming Arab in general and claiming Yemenis specifically (what's being discussed here), or maybe claim the latter in some instances, but don't put emphasis on it :mjohreally:

I've never seen anyone compliment a lightie with "you look yemeni" but there's defiantly some sort of inferiority complex from some people that's been going on for years now. The half yemeni xalimo memes didn't pop up out of thin air.

I guess our dynamic with them is unique as our northern neighbors they’re our gateway and shortest route to cultivated society but due to lack of land border there’s a disconnect and interactions with them is filtered a select few few making that journey like hujjaj , those seeking knowledge, and traders etc

It’s also possible that shafci fiqh was introduced and established through interactions with Yemen

I already have asked a long time ago my father doesn't care about the clan beefs and thinks the arab thing is fake. I didn't think anyone took it seriously until I came online. Irl I literally don't see anyone talking non stop about being arabs like it is online.

Most people that hail from these clans have more or less accepted that they are only Somalis (sounds ridiculous to state the obvious, lol), irrespective of whatever origin they claim.

But to be frank, our society has become much more tribalist, especially blatantly in recent times, which you may have noticed. Hence, why it’s brought up more frequently. Otherwise you’ll probably not hear it from the average person.
