Why do some Somalis think we have 4c hair?

I personally love my hair and am confident with it, but I'm the odd ball who has the kinkiest hair in my fam and its 4a. Sure, I used to get teased by my fam from time to time. However, because it used to be waist length i never really got the brunt of lookism. Instead the habeyars I was neighbors with would praise my long hair and look at it in fascination. I cut it all off when I was 18 and kept it short for 4 years. I had long hair since I could remember and I just wanted to know what having short hair would be like. oh, the freedom!!!!! :rejoice:However during these 4 years of keeping it short, i've seen the difference in reaction when it comes to my hair. The same people who looked at my hair with awe suddenly had a different reaction to my short hair. Even my own fam who would originally tell me that my hair was gorgeous, now tell me that keeping it short is ugly and to go back to my original length. After experiencing a 4 years of freedom, I've gotten tired of having short hair, i've decided to grow it out again. I got a buzz cut in June to start growing it out from the beginning, and now is currently at this length in 8 months. (not me, pic from google)

What I'm trying to say is that type 4 hair is only considered "beautiful" when its long. While any other type of hair can be short and considered "pretty" or "cute" Type 4 can't. For type 4 to be considered beautiful, it beauty and length has to go far beyond the standards set for the other types of hair. The 4 years of keeping my hair short gave me some in sight on what type 4 hair people suffer. It was this time that I've realized that it was my waist length that had people in awe, not my hair in general. I have type 4a, and wear a hijab. I can't even imagine what type 4c go through :francis:

I don’t think I’ve ever seen it apart from one person and even then, I wouldn’t even be surprised if they has a Somali Bantu in the family.

4C isn’t normal for Somalis whatsoever. 4A yes, 4b not so much, and it’s verging on the unusual, let alone 4C. Somalis don’t even know the difference between the the different 4s and will call a person with 4A hair which isn’t rare and say they have 4C which is most definitely rare.
This is what I mean. They’ll claim Somalis with 2a-b hair have straight hair when it’s clearly wavy.

It’s impossible to be 4c or 1a(like indhoyar) and be full somali. Those are genes that we don’t carry.

Who came up with these numbers and letter to define hair density, there’s not a length people will go to divide themselves.
I’m curious to see which one of you ladies are confident enough to having such thick hair or is everyone Hindi texture online.
