Why does society judge women for this?

Should Somali women dress however they like?

I honestly wonder how Somali culture has become so different in the past few decades. We went from women dressing like this:

To dressing way more conservative:

I don't have a huge problem with it since as Muslims, we're supposed to cover up, but I hate how intolerant our society can be. I like wearing my hair out, but that doesn't mean I'm a bad person. Even in most Arab countries, it's not unusual to see women with their hair out, but it's almost intolerable in Somali society.
:ayaanswag:
I think as a Somali woman, I should have the right to wear my own hair out. When we have a society with qabiil-hatred, khat chewing, and un-Islamic superstitious beliefs, wearing hijab is the least of our worries.

Women should not be forced to cover themselves. It's between them and Allah in my opinion.

Insha'Allah things will change back home. Our Women should be able to wear their cultural/national clothing with pride.

Other Muslim majority nations, like Turks, Arabs, Malays e.g don't have this problem & there's no reason why we should too.

Blame it on these stupid dhegacas importing their extereme version of Islam into Somalia. Even when these mofo sand ni ggers never ever follow it. When they come to the west, they drop all signs of being a Muslim. We need a Somali renaissance ASAP, bring back our culture and eradicate any Arab influence

Somalis will still say that their culture is haram and that theyre happy with arab shaytan culture bc it is closer to islam.

a bunch of xoolo
imagine abandoning your identity bc of a sandnigger.

Everyone get judged by how they dress. You shoukd have the right to dress almost how you want as long as you dont break decency law. But I have the right to be as judgemental as I please

Wallahi I know what you mean, the brainwashing is strong in this generation of Somalis. Also its probably due to low self esteem and the media protraying African cultures as barbaric. So they want to distant themselves from that and be closer to their Arab culture that their ancestor never practiced. Weird thing here in the west Whites and Arabs try to act or appropriate African culture. This life or dunya can be confusing sometimes.

I'm well aware of that. But I just hate the cultural norm that forces women to cover up or get mocked/ostracized. Women should not be pressured by anyone to cover up in huge fabrics. Our bodies are only for ourselves.

Hijab so mandatory ma haa? I'm confused how is it judgemental when someone tells another Muslim to wear hijab.

This is just sad. Our ancestors from 200-300 years ago would probably kill themselves if they saw our society now. They literally made our culture by passing it on from generation to generation but noo low iq somalis want to throw it all away for the unibrow bastards.
Somali news channels love showing bleached somali girls who look like raw chicken legs.
Somalis back home are still stuck in 2013. Looking at them makes me want to choke.
Somalis are seriously lost. Xalimos in the west are crying for Madow, xalimos back home are overdosing on xalwo, luugo basto abdis in the uk are dying every month, abdis back home are busy making tiktok videos.

The only thing we have left is xalwo:(

wait

its from the unibrow bastards

It's fine if family members ask their female relatives to cover up. But if a woman refuses, it's her business and no one else's in my opinion.
:kanyeshrug:
I agree that the deen calls for women to cover up. But I just want the freedom that Turkish women, Malaysian women, Lebanese women, etc. get to have. They have women who wear hijab and those who don't in their societies without any problems.

I agree sxhb its disheartening being a Somali in this generation:friendhug:

Yeah I get what you mean. I feel like there are certain aspects of the deen some cultures tend to focus on and other don't. It varies like for example Somalis are very big on hijab but pakistanis/asians not so much. But than again, Somalis are not so strict when it comes down to gender relations. As long there's a level of respect and modesty. Somali women are not afraid to state their opinion or talk back to men, it's not so shamefull as it might be to other muslim cultures.

Lol, there was ban on hijab in Turkey until very recently, Lebanese and Malaysian are not as homogeneous as we are. That said I'm only debating the fact someone telling another Muslim to cover up is not judgemental whether they adhere or refuse it's up to them but it's obvious they are wrong for refusing to listen

Moreover, advising someone to follow the deen correctly does not contradict culture, the deen is not against culture but only to correct it.

I'm ok with women having the choice to wear whatever they want, but this dress that many somali women in Somalia is not Somali but from the arabic peninsula.
If people over there are against Westernisation of their country, they should be pissed as well about this Arabisation of Somalia.
We are not arabs.

I have always wondered this even as a child. Other muslims are not that judgemental if you don't wear a hijab or wear your traditional clothing. But somalis even wear hijab and a long sleeved shirt underneath the guuntino!! Wtf bruv.

You can cover up using other traditional clothes I think someone said it sunnah to do that correct me if im wrong. You guys are ignoring why they dress this way as if we don't have al shabaab forcing it
