Why dont somali women look the same anymore?

I know. Was not addressing OP.

When I visit back home, I get alot of comments how I am pretty but would be much prettier if I bleached myself. Some distant habaryar gave me bleaching cream as gift when I was leaving loooool..

Only woman who complimented my skintone was a 80 yr old ayeyo. She said I have midibka asalka ah gabdaha somali use to have and told me to not bleach myself. Remember older habaryars were teenagers when the war broke off. In a way they are also product of their environment. Even the men. I just think we shouldn't point fingers since none of us can guarantee we won't turn like them if we were in their shoes.
That's true walaal, it just truly sadness me how we somalis experienced such big downgrade. I remember this awoowe once talking about how he used to write love letters/poems to a girl he once loved when he was young. In the poems he mentioned the beauty of her dark skin which surprised me since I grew up in a very colorist somali generation while his generation had more pride and high self-esteem.

Government collapse + Salafism

Stuff like guuntiino is basically extinct, our society collapsed.
salafism focked somalia up. i really wish i experienced Somalia pre 1991. no government gave arab charities space to come and took advantage to spread the wahabi ideology and now women have to drag three layers of clothing through the scorching heat ffs

Our neighbourhood isn't great.

Indonesia had the Japanese & Chinese as technologically superior neighbours, Turkey has the EU&Russia,

We have Saudi Arabia and Qatar, 2 sandn1gger, ignorant, oil sheikhdoms that spend 10s of billions spreading their fundamentalist version of Islam from Senegal to Malaysia

It's a lack of essential minerals such as vitamin D and a high carb diet. Same goes for men.

So true! Unfortunately recent generations have less pride in their roots. Lots of them are like sheeps following the next big trend.

Btw, there is alot of old somali songs and gabay praising dark skin women, you should check em out ☺️

Tbh I dunno. Northerners are typically dark to me, but then that’s because my family grew up in the south and what’s light to reer waqoyi isn’t light to ppl in konfur. They’ll call someone in between light whereas we see that as brown. My grandmothers from a town near wardheer and her family is dark. So I’m not sure if it’s the climate tbh.
wardheer is in ethiopia not reer waqooyi

I know that. I didn’t say it was. The person asked is it based on location since their family is from puntland and they aren’t typically dark. Some ppl say those closer to the coast tend to be darker but I don’t think it’s true, hence the example.

With all due respect to somali women as a whole, this question is in no way shaming girls from back home (as I myself am a young somali woman who was born there) but I'm just eager to find out what happened?

Somali women back in the day's obviously used wear different clothes that were either more western or more traditional (e.g. guntiino, dirac) but bedsides the change of clothes even the physical appearance changed. Somali women back then used to be taller, slim with curves, accepted their beautiful dark natural skin and curly hair.

But now we got a whole wave of overweight diabetic bleached up self-hating xalimos who want to look arab as possible. Especially in places like Hargeisa and Xamar girls get shamed for being dark ? Which is so ironic because somalis would praise the first two girls in this picture belowe but tear down the second girl while the rest of the world appreciates natural somali beauty more than somalis themselves.

So my question is who's at fault? Self hating Habaryars and hooyo's enforcing their inferiority complex in to young somali girls which ends up in them hating themselves, or somali men constantly praising arab looking women and downgrading somali women.
Forget Somali men for a sec, because I genuinely think their standards of beauty never really have affected Somali women, because we couldn't care less. I more or less believe it's the self-hating habaryars with their whack TikTok accounts advertising products that are so bad for them. Even me as a child, people called me Muna Cadey and I always thought being lighter skinned was a good thing. I am darker now, mainly because I am grown, but this whole idea of light-skins being prettier than others has always been drilled into me. I have grown up and seen the light and appreciated my curly hair and my dark skin and my fat ass thighs because that is who I am. Honestly, we need to stop with the White and Asian films in our culture because even though they might be good looking and attractive, its not for us. If Somali women want representation, then we need more films made by Somali people, or even just other Africans, because at the end of the day their hair relaxer epidemic came from these films too. More people with darkskin, curly or afro hair, people who look African. Because that is who we are. I rest my case.

last wedding I was invited to a week ago both the groom and the bride were wearing traditional clothing, and at home its also traditional macwiis and baati.

Not exactly islamic to post peoples old pictures though, and this is a non-issue, they were not educated on Islamic attire back then, and I bet those pics are private pics that somehow found their way on the internet.

This is a city folk phenomena, my baadiye reer look just like the old days. Tall, slim and dark just because you see some Krusty the clown on Tiktok don't mean that reer miyi the majority look like those clowns.

They need to show more Brazilian music and films in Somalia since they look most like our people
I one hundred percent agree ! At least Brazilians and other South Americans have similar appearances to us, and from what I know they're one of the most colourful and prideful people too.

Nahh Brazilian media is filled with Germans. They have a very colorstuck outlook, worse than Somalis tbh. You can see it in all of their top models and stuff. The black ones rarely are ever welcomed in Brazil the way the German ones are.

I’m sorry to hurt you but South Americans, ESPECIALLY BRAZILIANS, are more colour struck then we are.

This isn’t a Somali problem, it’s worldwide. Also the last girl looks fine. She doesn’t look like a bleacher.
