As much as I dislike Russia. Russia is only responding to US encroachment on its sphere of influence. If you actual look at the wider picture, the US has encouraged countries which traditionally had strong ties to Russia such as Ukraine, and the Stan's to align more closely with West, whereby constraining Russian influences. Not to look weak, Russia has flexed its muscle, to show its still a force to be reckoned with. nevertheless the wolfs are circling, Russia is been encircled from all sides, its only option is turn East to China.
