I don't know about Elephants, but their were lions in most of Northern Somalia.

Yes you are correct, if you read colonial excerpts they talked about many different big game animals (elephants,rhinoceros, leopards, lions, etc.) that use to roam present-day Somaliland, but sadly they were all wiped out thanks to over hunting. Maroodi Jeh got it's name do to the Elephants that use to roam there.
