I don't know why my other thread about Hobyo port was removed. I wanted to discuss Hobyo ports strategic importance in Somalia. I would also like to see more investment in Hobyo. I think that we have done really well. We have come a long way. Galmudug is making great progress.
Dr Osman called me mad when I said that Hobyo will have a jetty port within months. This port will be the same size as Bosaso port, inshallah. This will give Galmudug economic power and more disposable cash to tax. It would make the locals more wealthier. It would also encourage further investment. I would like the government of Ethiopia to give us import and export goods to Ethiopia. Just like they have with Djibouti and Somaliland.
Hobyo port investment is welcome for anybody including PL. We want to be number one destination for import and export. We want to be cheaper than both Mogadishu and Berbera. I think this is where we have advantage. Have the lowest tax possible, Even if it means letting people use it almost for free.
Our primary buisness should be the basis. Exporting Somali livestock and importing trucks, cars and basic goods.
Even we can get Mogadishu's rich in Hobyo than that itself would be enough.
Next level is Qatar which has shown a strong interest in Hobyo and has even visited it. Hobyo will be Qatars answer to UAE's Berbera's port.
