Nationalism in the 20th century killed the last caliphate and allowed Brits/Americans to take advantage of us

I even read an old book and it said in the last days of the Ottoman Empire American oil men were disguised as “converts ”they even called themselves “playboys in the holy land ”

People who act hyper nationalist or supremacist are not fully secure about their identities and have to put on a boisterous external front to shield themselves from it. It's a form of collective narcissism and it will lead to neglect and destruction in the long run. Neglect in terms of the problems will build up because you are overly concerned with managing PR than addressing them head on and allowing for honest open conversation around it. The destruction because your generating internal and external dissent because you are expanding a nationalist project at the expense of others driven by beliefs of superiority and entitlement.

But if your national identity is rooted in you wanting to progress, inspire, develop and advocate for your country and its people then that's something that is positive. That's how most Somalis are like.

It doesn't matter whether Somalia is highly developed or not, we should strive for this at all times. The potential, resilience and progress that have been made both in past and present should be a great motivator to us all. So i don't think it would change much for most of us
