I didn't comment on her skin color nor did I call her ugly. And I agree it's wrong to insult her on how she looks irrespective of it. Now, this isn't a minor problem or few dhoocilo like you say. Somali women have developed a negative reputation that's not found in other communities. I am merely expressing my opinions and I can see it bothers you just like it bothers me when a xalimo makes an entire blog titling it 'somali men ain't shit'.
It is a problem of self hate among these girls and they are more numerous than you think. While I can't do anything about it, if there is a discussion being held be it on online or in real life, I will throw in my two cents.

I'm unsure why you're getting seemingly defensive? I didn't stop you from adding your 2cents but just merely pointed out that we should have some perspective. Yes, there is a problem but what are we doing to resolve it?

It's not numerous or some sorta epidemic like it's made out on this forum because the VAST majority of Somali women still marry Somali men. Like I said it is a small but vocal minority that seems to be causing a problem in our community.

Bottom line, these sort of threads achieve very little if anything at all.

which ones? I spent time in qatar and saudi before. Wallahi the girls there are very obedient to their parents. Some are bad like most places but on average, they are more wifey material. Almost every girl I know is into this blm lives crap or is collecting funds for Palestine during ramadan time all the while they are absent when we are collecting money for somalia or when we have a youth meeting. They volunteer in the arab mosques and arab picnics but you never see them in our youth centers. It's hard to find a decent xalimo who is proud of being somalia. There is definitely a big gap in self hate between the genders.

You made a comment about the guys earlier and that's also true so it isn't just the girls but this topic isn't about the males. Threads like these give the exposure needed. I don't disagree and I'm not denying that there is a problem but I do think it is exaggerated and there is some embellishment too.

There is an element of self-hatred among young Somali girls but why? Or how did that come about? And what can be done? I don't mind discussing these points at all. There are enough exposure, ridicule and mockery threads. Some 30 pages long but hardly any substance.

Lets have a discussion for a change on how we can overcome the underlying issues of self-hate, self-deprecation and how we can improve aspects of our culture that cause these girls to become ashamed of their own background and distance themselves from it.

Their parents should encourage hobbies and malcaamad (which really serves as day care) is not a hobby. They should also give them actual attention and communicate with them instead of just insulting them to clean their room.

Some of the girls posted were cringe so I honestly don't think there is anything wrong with mocking them. I mean one of them was called cheap and then the guy said we could have been something and she buckled and asked him if they really could be. That shows lack of self worth and lack of self respect and to me such people don't deserve any respect whatsoever.


I think somali parents not doing a good job parenting their kids(maybe), and no instilling cultural value is one factor. Another contributing factor I think would be how little obedience and respect is expected from somali children. Somali fathers are particularly way too lenient and almost absent in how their kids' lives. Where do you think it stems from?
