(Yes I know this is an Insane idea)

Somali language and jokes leaking onto international social media is becoming serious, from being called 'nayaa' by ajanabis while I walk home, to the 14 year old kid who died requesting a 'mindi' on his story, to the use of 'Madow' all over tiktok, to the 'big forehead' abdi jokes :banderas:

Since Soomaalis are afweyn warsheegas, maybe using an alternative script could help combat this (e.g. Osmanya)

Yes I know this idea will be hard/impossible to actually implement but majority of Somaliphobia would have never existed if this was our reality :farmajoyaab:

The same thing happened to Jamaican patois in the uk, where 90% of uk slang or roadman slang is just patois. But I don’t think Somali is gonna be to that level tbh, a few words being used isn’t anything special, loan words are an integral part of linguistics after all.

If it was just a few loanwords I wouldn't mind but wa cajiib markaan dibadda iska socdo iyo niin hindi ah ayaa igu yidhi 'nayaa' I wanted to slap the evil smile off his face, this happens often enough to me it's getting so annoying

Next time you see that Hindi say to him: Abahaa was, naagyahay naagtu dhashay! While raising your shoe.

It doesn’t help that some Somali guys release low-tier rap and drop random Somali words in it, and the context would be very disgusting & degenerate too. If you are going to rap about nastiness make sure all of it is in English.

It is not just Somalis though. You have prominent rappers like Digga D using Somali words. Probably the same in Canada.

@Devilsadvocate it is the consequence of living in rough area=history of Somali gangs/drug activity. I think it’s also good marketing I suppose due to large online Somali diasporas. I have seen a clip of French Montana crediting Somalis in Toronto for pushing his music in the early days.

Have any of you had any ajanabis saying Somali sounds violent or rough? I’ve had to pull up some people on this. One was a Moroccan, so I had to ask him how Somali sounds any more “rougher” than Darija, Arabic or Berber, literally same articulation points? Or even Chinese and some Philippine language? Another was a Congolese who said Somali sounds like gunshots.
