France is currently having a heated discussion about it. Some cities and islands have banned it. France's prime ministers just recently made a statement on the burkini stating "it is not compatible with French values and are based on the enslavement of women". How do you feel about it? Some of the members here are religious while others are either secular leaning or atheists. I would love to read your opinion. Here's a couple of pictures of the burkini for reference.

It doesn't even look that different from those wetsuits surfers & other water sports use, only with a hood on top.

IMO, it's a bit excessive to ban it. Just pathetic overreach.

I don't see how it violates their values. The face is uncovered so there's no security risk or anything like that. To me, it just looks absurd, but that's hardly a crime.

While I wouldn't wear it I don't see the reason to ban it. There's no security risk, the face is not covered. The only problem I have with it is that it might be heavy and the women wearing it should know how to swim for her own safety! Other than that it's their choice.

There's other ways to discuss the enslavement of women and both the burkini and bikini should be apart of the topic :5hcpspq:

its stupid to ban it. their doing the most right now, but i kind of understand why they would think it. white people love exporting their values to other countries but hate when arabs export a bit of their culture.

I don't really think they care about women's freedom, especially Muslim women's freedom. They just want to find another way to limit the rights of Muslims in the country. France has always had an obsession with uncovering Muslim women and say that it is to civilize them.

These women are obviously ostracised from engaging in beach activities. Majority of women wear a bikini to the beach this leaves mosy modest muslims out of the equation. A woman who wears long dresses to cover her body will struggle to blend in when going to the beach. So this burkini does have it's advantage however it looks odd firsly you will stick out like a sore thumb wearing it to the beach. And secondly it doesn't look flattering wich to be honest ladies we want to feel and look good when going for a stroll. So to conclude if your muslim and conservative just wear a long thin maxi dress with a head wrap it's much more acceptable than this monstrosity. If you want to look odd or be in the impression that your scuba diving then by all means go ahead and wear the Burkini, just don't forget the oxygen tank.

He wants to impose his "values" on her even though she clearly WANTS to dress this way for the beach. How hypocritical of the french government. No wonder terrorists target them the most(and no I dont condon those attacks).

Doesn't countries like Saudi Arabia do the same? What's the difference?

I understand why France gets targeted. If you treat your citizens like second class subjects, then they shouldn't be surprised why disgruntled individuals attack them. With that kind of policies ISIS doesn't even have to recruit, people will voluntarily blow themselves up.
