One thing that makes me annoyed when people use the Zulus as an example of Africa’s best warriors.

Niggas with short spears and cow hide shields which don’t stop bullets were represented as if its Africa’s top warriros.

Their whole tactic was to run at the enemy until you reach them.

The only thing that was semi cool about them was their bull horn strategy

Europe has their knights to represent them East Asia has their Samurai to represent them Middle east has a multitude of types of warriors to represent them.

No doubt they were brave but they shouldn’t be pedestaled to being the most famous African solider its like saying the viking are the best of European power

Shaka had 1 trick and that was the bull and horns strategy.

By the time the British began to fight the Sayid, they were using African levies to fight their colonial wars in Africa. Most of the "British" dead in the campaigns against the Sayid were African, Indians and Somali recruits. Real British deaths were limited.

The British also had the Maxim gun during the conflict with the Darawiish, something that was absent during the Zulu wars.

Nonetheless, the Zulu were incredibly effective. They were brave beyond measure and did not flinch from taking heavy casaulties. The fully deserve the reputation they have. If they were just a bit better organized and had access to rifles, they may have won, at least temporarily.

Dervish were essentially like the steppe warriors like the Turks or Mongols. Quick mobile warriors that hit hard and kept moving. Compared to the Zulu ground forces the Dervish would cut through them. However the Zulu were quick on military strategy and the development of the bull's horns strategy was great. It essentially ensured fresh resupply of troops. It's why they overwhelmed their enemies.

Dervish are faster and better equipped but the Zulus are more numerous. I think the Dervish would win though.
