A lot of maps on the internet are inaccurate. There's even some maps that shows Oman controlled basically all of Somalia lol. There definitely was some influence but they were never apart of that

I don't get why people are trying to claim our dhaqan now. Diraac and baatis are Somali culture. Habeshas have a white dress with crosses (if they are christian) with certain patterns. Oromos have a certain clothing that they wear and head beads on their foreheads. It's not rocket science. A lot of ajanabis for some odd reason want to claim somali culture now. Yemenis have their own traditional dress that looks nothing like a baati/diraac. We need to do better as Somalis honestly and call these people out. There are people trying to profit off somali clothing and selling them now.

Xamar and Baraawe were considered part of the Swahili coast politically not ethnically. Somali sultanates in Xamar had colonies in Mozambique and regularly traded with the other kingdoms.

They also fought together against the Portuguese and other invaders. Many Somalis moved across to Zanzibar and vice versa.

We were always distinct as a people but the sultanates were generally intertwined as fellow African Muslim monarchies.

I dunno if we can truly claim the Dirac as ours tbh. It wasn’t part of our tradition even 60 or 70yrs ago. Forget the baati even the actual dirac that we wear for aroos are also worn by N. Sudanese.
