AFRICAN claims Baati/Dirac isn’t Somali

The fact that only south Yemenis and people close to somalis wear it tells something. It originates in Somalia.

I have no problem with people wearing it but It becomes a problem when they credit it to some other culture or call it "East African culture". Some somalis wear Indian saris for fun but they know its Indian and don't claim it.

How come only Somali culture is supposed to be shared?

Okay I will claim kente cloth, dashiki and afrobeats as Somali then:damnmusic:

We share in Africa

Loool Somalis already claim Dashiki, they call it "Afrikaan dress" back home.

You can buy it in Somali stores in Kenya and also some stores back home.

Even Afrobeats has been claimed by Somalis. Listen to Lil Baliil, he's a Somali language afrobeats artist.

Somalis stole South Asian chai and passed it on as "Shaax" (Shaax is an arab word that we stole by the way) and are now trying to gate keep loose cloth. However Shaax is Somali culture with South Asian origins, but we call it Somali culture. Nobody gets mad.

what does it mean in arabic?

القوقرة او الفوطة ( للمرأة ) : الزنة ، او مايشبه التنورة .. من ملابسها الداخلية

Gogarat: Resembling a skirt, part of women's under wear.

دِرْعُ الْمَرْأَةِ : قَمِيصُهَا، يُلْبَسُ فِي البَيْت

Dir3: A woman's dress, worn in the home

It's a subconscious thing.

I think most of us when we see another black person we go "that's ourselves."
Sometimes for good and bad.
