Interesting, as a somali-American do you think more somalis live in suburbs or apartments?
I live in Canada. It depends because there’s Somalis who live in both but a lot also own the apartments they live at. Obviously the new comers live in apartments but more and more are living in the burbs now

from my experience visiting in MN. A lot have got their own houses. From what I understand Europe is hard to own a home

Wow wow wow calm down cowboy let's not act all unrational now, you and me both know damn well the second pic is from America too (well at least the non-white part).
2nd pic is from Italy, we cannot deny that suburbs in Europe tend to be low income apartment block areas kkkk

The entire Internet has currently this corny phase of hating on everything to do with the United States and bootlicking Europe and I'm done with it ! Like did we as collective completely forgot that in less than two decades ago America was literally the most idolised country in the word? even Japan and their weid weeaboo's are nothing compared to how people use to view America back.

I in no way am patriotic to that cursed land, but I'm mature enough to acknowledge the best attributes to America such as their suburbs. Middle/Upper class suburbs in America are just *cheff kiss* especially in the early 2000s, Europe can simply not compare to this.

Their houses look so family oriented, homely and cosy especially during winter.
Yes, actually suburbia in the US is rather heavenly, and much prettier than those pictures. For example, in the MidWest, neighbourhoods just a quarter of an hour from the cities are spacious, gorgeous with lakes, parks, and green lands. My current home abuts a sizeable natural lake, and in the summer is breathtaking, well minus mosquitoes in the eves, but nothing a fire pit would not remedy.

The only down side with American suburbs is that they're not convenient, especially for young children who want to bike or walk. I feel like cars are a necessity over there.
This is actually not true, for suburbia in the US is family friendly, much more so than Europe, where in the summer kids are out, and about biking, hiking, and playing sports at large parks, and fields; lovely, if best part of living in the US. One of the first thing one notices when a European migrates to the US.

And many Somali families are now moving out of the cities, esp. in MN, OH, and Washington (State), and unto suburbia, as their income, and social status improve; many are doing very well, Masha'Allah.

I do not miss Europe the least bit, except people: more educated, rational, and with depth, and civility (or perhaps used to, having seen what has become of Britain post Brexit).

sorry to break it to you but the suburbs never take section 8 you won't find many Somalis there. :dead:
I have noticed that Somalis live in the same places African Americans do. The projects or the high crime neighborhood's that take section 8 tenants. Tell me why my state is over 70% white but my middle school of 400 had less than dozen white kids. Then my high school of a thousand plus had less than 150 :heh: I would say it was over 50 % black than Hispanics and maybe 15% Asian. Somalis are basically African Americans 2.0 :deadpeter:

AAs facing systemic racism, Somalis trying to rebuild after a way, both experiencing fatherless homes and children going into crime
Ofc that's not all of them because there are extremely successful people in both groups, Inshallah the somali situation changes soon

Home ownership is relatively increasing, and high now amongst Somali families, say in MN, which is a sign of socio-economic vertical movement. It is not quite the same as it were in the naughties when most Somalis were recent immigrants congregating in predominantly poorer neighbourhoods. For example, in St Paul & Minneapolis, particularly in South Minneapolis, a predominantly Somali neighbourhood, where most Somalis now own properties, has become a much different neightbourhood than a decade ago. I would not consider South Minneapolis a 'madow' neighbourhood, nor would I consider Midway in St Paul. True, there are many, who still reside in public housing, but there is a discernible shift, as many families are now moving out to Eden Prairie, Burnsville, and as far away as Chaska, areas predominantly resided by people of European extraction.

Again, there are still many in poorer neighbourhoods, but there is a discernible shift.

Postscript:
And by the way, this is true for other immigrants. For example, South Minneapolis was once a neighbourhood for Nordic immigrants, later it became a Jewish neighbourhood, and now E. Africans, and Hispanics.

Nordics and Jews moved out to the suburbs i.e. St Louis Park, and now it is time for Somalis to move out, as they are doing. Actually, I would venture more, and more Oromos now live in S. Minneapolis, and will eventually take over. I shall let reer MN speak to the rest.

Suburbs in america are very beautiful wallahi :ahh: I'm a city girl through and through. I grew up in apartments and a noisy city. In the summer we got our first house (still in the city tho I would have preferred a suburb) however it took me a long time to get used to seeing darkness when I looked outside instead of city lights :mjlol: At night, I would look out the window and see my reflection and get startled :dead:

Oh this reminds me of one my tenants moving into a nice property in suburbia just outside of Chicago (he was moving from West Side, the quintessential ghetto), and calling me a few days later (paraphrasing): 'I am fed up with these birds tweeting and chirping, and waking me up early in the morning; could we do something about them'. I had to explain to him that was the beauty of living in suburbia, asking him to feed the birds, and put water, and apple outside for the birds, rabbits, and squirrels. There is a lovely apple tree in the front yard, which he annoyingly neglects, leaving not enough apples for the neighbours' bears on the farm.
