Australian Elections much like Candian and Uk elections have no set date but rather a deadline. The 2025 election will be held on or before 17 May and all the seats (150) in the House of Reps are up for election and 40 senate seats out of 76 are up for election. The winner of the election must have a majority in the house of reps to form government or make deals with other parties/independents at which point they become a minority government and form a coalition. If there is no majority/coalition then another election is called. Last time this happened was the 70's when the Queen dissolved parliament but there was shady going on there involving the CIA. The main issues are:
  • Cost of Living
  • Cost of Health
  • Energy/Climate change
  • Immigration
  • Cost of Housing
  • University Loans

Here are the parties that are contesting the election:

The Australian Labor Party

The Labor Party is currently the incumbents and have a 77 seat majority in the house of reps and 25 seats in the senate. The Australian Labour Party similar to its British counter part is a centre to left party and was born out of the union movements that started up in the late 1800's. Labor believes in a strong role for national government – the one institution all Australians truly own and control through our right to vote." Labor "will not allow the benefits of change to be concentrated in fewer and fewer hands, or located only in privileged communities. The benefits must be shared by all Australians and all our regions." Their main polices for the 2025 is solving the housing crisis by increasing supply, strengthening universal health by upping rebates, and drawing in foreign investment in the Australian renewable industry which is very important since Trump's attack on American renewable industry presents an opportunity for a Australia to be a global leader. The ALP has spent much of its political capital on the Voice referendum which was defeated in all states and territories except the Australian capital territory (the equivalent of D.C). The have fallen behind in polling in recent weeks with the Tories overtaking them but they are gaining momentum in this last stretch.

The Liberal National Party

The liberal national party (The coalition) is a centre right party that contains two parties, the liberal party of Australia (Mostly urban) and the National Party of Australia (Rural). They are currently the opposition and have 53 seats in the house of reps and a 30 seat majority in the senate and were in goverment from 2013 until 2022. The LNP's main party the Liberals was founded by Robert Menzies, the longest serving Prime Minister, on the idea of small government and private ownership and the prosperity of the middle class. Menzies says :

What we must look for, and it is a matter of desperate importance to our society, is a true revival of liberal thought which will work for social justice and security, for national power and national progress, and for the full development of the individual citizen, though not through the dull and deadening process of socialism.

They got absolutely pummeled in the 2022 election and that was not surprising given the rape scandals, the masturbating scandals, the vacation scandals and the gay staffers grindr scandal. This election marked the end of the main voter base of the party being the middle class as they flocked to labor and the independent nonparty political party, the teals, over its inaction on climate change. Losing support, the coalition seemingly became unelectable until the voice referendum where they got their first political win opposing the referendum. Fast forwarding they are the favorites to win the election outright with their unofficial campaign slogan being "Are you better off than you were five years ago?". The Tories have also campaigned on abandoning renewable initiatives, advocating for building nuclear energy infrastructure to power Australia into the future with the timeline for a functioning system projected to be around 2040. It is also worth noting that the LNP is massively supported by the overloads of Australian politics, the mining industry and mainstream news (also known as Rupert Murdoch). The Tories have also promised to reduce immigration by reducing foreign student numbers and the numbers of permanent migration and they have also promised to cut government spending by creating DOGE and firing public staff.

The Australian Greens

The third party of Australia is a social democratic party and has dour pillars: "social justice", "sustainability", "grassroots democracy" and "peace and non-violence".
The greens are constantly siphoning votes of labor voters who don't believe that labor isn't going left enough but they are only really a threat in urban inner-city seats due to preferential voting. The Greens are positioned well to be the king makers in Australian politics if the election results in a hung parliament. They currently have 4 seats in the house of reps and 11 seats in the senate. The party recently proposed a bill to break up the duopoly of supermarkets in Australia and they were supported by the national party (Rural conservatives). They have campaigned for free university and including dental in universal healthcare. They also have campaigned on more social housing to be built to combat the rising cost of housing caused by a lack of supply and increasing welfare payments by $88 making it $1200 a fortnight.

The Teal Independents

The Teal Independents are Independents only in name but in reality, function like a party. These independemts rose to prominence in the 2022 election with their platform being socially liberal and economically conservative. The teal name coming from combing the blue of the Tories and the green of the Greens. They predominantly run in Tory heartlands and are supported by the upper middle class who felt uncomfortable voting for the scandal ridden Tories, so they voted for tory lite. They are expected to be key players in the event of a hung parliament, but they refuse to say who they'll form a coalition with.

Minor Right wing parties

This includes One Nation, the trumpet of patriots and whatever other kook is running. Bunch of idiots who are campaigning on immigration, the moozlims, climate change isn’t real, all the parties are the same and sovcitizen bullshit. Their preferences usually flow to the LNP so they are LNP voters in practical terms. The Jacquie Lambie Network is an exception. The senator from Tasmania is a bit more sensible than the likes of Clive Palmer and Pauline Hanson.

Katter’s Australia Party

The representative from Queensland is an agrarian socialist and socially conservative. Bob Katter is one of Australia’s best characters and is leading the fight for agriculturists in Australia. Easily my favourite politician. One of his ideas was to introduce rifle practice in high school and make sure every teenage boy could shoot in case of an invasion.

P.S : I am going to be voting Green with Labor as my second preference and the LNP last. In my electorate this is a vote for labor whilst contributing to the Greens tally in the senate.

Voting Labour first and greens second, I realised labour isnt really useless and they honestly do build things but its not enough cause the next elections liberal wins and destroys all the progress its just an endless cycle 😂, I also reckon the greens should be given a fair go for once liberal and labour have been around for far too long
