B. W. ANDRZEJEWSKI final message

So i didn't even know this was a thing but apparently this was one of the final things ANDRZEJEWSKI said on his deathbed in the hospital addressed to somalis

And look at this. He's confirming my speculation that somali poetry was likely fully developed by the time somalis islamized. Considering that we know this happen in the 7/8th century. Then somali poetry must have already been fully developed by then.

That’s a beautiful message; thank you for sharing. I have no legitimate evidence to base this off, but I suspect our poetic form is quite ancient based on the invocations of figures — perhaps vestigial gods — that have completely been forgotten. There’s something major that we’re missing, and I hope someone can someday draw up feasible hypotheses.

Yeah i have the same idea. So did andrewski. Based of the lack of arabic influence on the poetry. But yeah I really want to uncover that vestigial stuff.

I know right. It seems like somalia was on his mind in his dying days. I always found the idea of a friend of the people cringe. But this dude was the real deal.

He reminds me of this American who lived in Somalia during the 80s and became proficient in Somali, he speaks of Somalis the same way.

I think language is the gateway that makes you feel more connected to a people in a way.
It's through the medium of language that culture is conveyed.

Somali language is in decline, in terms of quality since the civil war.
True, Somali was extensively used as a medium of instruction and administration. They was i which all this was realized became a model for imitation and emulation by other countries of the African continent. But after the collapse of the Somali state, this language that had gained such an important role for Somalis lost most of its prestige.

Just to put in perspective the gains made before the war

You can also see from his usage of the Somali language he gives insights into the idioms, proverbs and cultural phrases that was used in the daily speech and life in Somalia back then as if literature and poetry was blended into the common speech.

I feel like it's been recovering the last several years starting with the book fairs in the big cities.
